I have traveled a lot to Bali the last few years for my work and vacation and I had opportunities to stay in various hotels from 4-star to luxurious villas.
In this lens, I would like to share my reviews and tips on the best place to stay for your next Bali vacation. Hopefully, this lens will guide you to find an ideal hotel in Bali to accommodate your needs.

A Brief Description of Bali and Hotels in Bali

I assume that my lens' visitors know about Bali a little bit i.e. location, uniqueness, and why Bali is so famous for tourists around the globe who seek exotic beach vacation with island scene and unique traditional culture. (if you don't know, please peek what Wikipedia says about Bali below). Bali was ranked #1 of Top 10 World's Best Islands by the T L Magazine's Readers'survey on World's Best Award for three consecutive years (2005, 20006 & 2007) and slightly down to #2 on 2008 Award.

Bali has been known worldwide since 1960's, since then many hotels have been developed rapidly on the best spots of Bali to support the growth of tourism business. If you search hotels in Bali using hotel search engine of EasyHotelSelection.com, you will get a list of over 720 hotel deals in Bali. Hence, selecting the right Bali hotel is quite a challenge as you may have no idea which hotel should you pick to suite your preference and budget. I have been asked many times by friends to give recommendation on hotels in Bali, even though they have been to Bali before. So, I write this lens to help my friends and others who found this lens in choosing their hotels in Bali.

I will provide a brief information on hot tourist location in Bali where most hotels are located to give a better understanding, then a list of recommended hotels categorized by type with breakdown on class (star) and in connection with location.

Getting Familiar With Locations in Bali

Famous tourist destination where most hotels are located

Kuta - Legian Area
Natural features: beach
Kuta and Legian, along the western coastline of Bali island, is famous for beaches, night life, entertainment and shopping. Long stretch of white sandy beach and breathtaking sunset view of Kuta have attracted many tourists since its rediscovery by surfers in 1970's. As famous area for budget travelers, Kuta and Legian offer accommodation type from mom-pop's hotels to 4-star chain hotels.

Seminyak
Natural features: beach
Seminyak beach is situated upper north of Legian and sharing the same beach feature as Kuta beach and Legian beach. Seminyak area is more for life-style tourists with top-class restaurant, fine dining, boutiques, and up-scale shops along the streets.

Sanur
Natural features: beach
Sanur, on the eastern coastline of Bali island is the longest established tourist area in Bali, known as the locations for older hotels, and is popular for family destination and upper class travelers. Sanur beach offers the best part of are with quiet sandy beach and great ocean view. It is easy to get around Sanur as the main toll road of the island, Bypass Ngurah Rai, is passing the area.

Nusa Dua
Natural features: beach
Nusa Dua is 300-hectare resort complex on the southern Peninsula of Bali. This beautifully landscaped complex has more 17 five-star resort hotels, apartment, villas, the 18-hole Bali Golf and Country Club and excellent shopping facilities.

Jimbaran Bay
Natural features: beach, cliff, ocean view
Jimbaran is a beautiful are of mix sandy beach, cliff and highlands on the northwestern coastline of Bali Peninsula. It is home to top-class hotel like the Ritz Carlton Bali and Four Seasons Jimbaran which offers stunning ocean view. Northern part of Jimbaran beach is famous for seafood restaurants offering dinner on the beach

Uluwatu and Southwest Bukit Peninsula

This area includes Uluwatu, Ungasan and Dreamland beach.
"Bukit" is highlands area leading to Uluwatu with feature of limestone cliff, 70-meter above Indian ocean. This area is named after Uluwatu Temple, the 11th Century temple and one of Bali's holiest sites. Uluwatu beach with high wave is surfers' favorite. Southern coast of Peninsula is recently becoming popular for top-end villa resorts that offer "hidden paradise" with stunning ocean view to their guests.

Ubud
Natural features: valley, river, mountain, paddy fields
Ubud is the most popular destination for natural beauty and mountain villages, also known as the "cultural heart" of Bali, famous for its highly skilled artists. Great restaurants, art & craft shops, boutiques, and galleries along the main streets give you a unique experience of Ubud that you can't find elsewhere. Other tourist attractions in Ubud include monkey forest, cultural & art villages and Elephant Cave. Recently, Ubud is well-known location for International quality top-class boutique type villa resorts.

Denpasar
Natural features: city
Denpasar, the capital city of Bali Province (Bali Island), is modern city and the largest city in Bali. It is shopping place and center of local business activities.

Tuban
Natural features: beach
Tuban is the closest tourist area to the International Airport (Ngurah Rai Airport). Being one of the oldest tourists area in Bali, most hotels in Tuban is old hotels and attracts mid-class to budget travelers.

West Bali (Canggu, Tanah Lot)
Natural features: beach, paddy fields
Main features of West Bali are black sand beaches with big waves, rice fields, quiet mountains, hidden temples and natural villages. This area is not as developed for tourist as other part of Bali. Canggu is famous for private villa location whilst Tanah Lot, one of the best tourist attractions in Bali, is the 15th sanctuary built on rocky mound.

Bedugul
Natural features: mountain, lake
Bedugul is cool highland area on the shores of Lake Brantan. This resort area features three natural lakes surrounded by small villages and provides wonderful views of misty mountains. Bedugul is getting popular for tourist retreats and natural walks.

Candi Dasa
Natural features: beach, shipwreck under water
Candi Dasa is a quiet beach front tourist destination on the East coast of Bali. This is a good location to stay if you would like to explore more tourist attractions on the East coast area such as Kungkung Water Palace, Bat Cave ("Goa Lawah"), and Tulamben, one of the most interesting diving site in Bali with WWII US cargo shipwreck under the water.

Amed & East Coast
Natural features: beach
Amed, a little remote fishing village upper north of Candi , is a favorite retreat for those avoiding busy beaches on the south and seeking private beach for snorkeling. It makes Amed the Koh Samui of Bali.

Lovina & North Coast
Natural features: beach, dolphin view
Lovina is the main tourist attraction of the North Coast with an 8-km strip of black sandy beach. Lovina is renowned for its serenity, quiet beach, and place to see school of dolphins dancing on the ocean. It is a great place for diving and snorkeling as well as relaxing on sandy beaches. Lovina Beach can be reached from Singaraja, the biggest historical city on Northtern Bali, situated about 3 km from Lovina.

Bali has wide range of hotel class from budgeted hotel (mom's & pop's lodging or homestay) to super luxurious boutique resorts you can ever imagine exist. Physically, most hotels in Bali are low-rise buildings, with maximum of 4 floors, since there is a height restriction on development parameter. Beside the suite /room type of accommodation, villa or bungalow type is also popular in Bali. More private villa compounds with private yard and pool have been developed for the last few years. Some hotels have mix of suites and villas.
