My first experience building a balloon arch was one my cheerleading squad was to build for a football game. We set up in the high school gym one afternoon with balloon supplies, a helium tank or two, and some fishing line. We built a two color balloon in blue and white that was about 20 feet long. It took us a few hours to build and move that arch to the field and my fingers were raw from tying balloons when we were done.

I've also built a few balloon columns, first improvising on my own by tying balloons to topiary frames. I've since learned how to make balloon arches and columns with a few simple tricks that make the process much easier and much faster. My family has also grown - inlaws, more inlaws, children, great neighbors and more parties. As a result, I wanted to learn new balloon decoration ideas to use to make these parties more special.

It took me longer than it probably should have to realize that there were more shapes to work with than the regular, round balloons. There were long balloons, patterned balloons, clear balloons, large balloons, small balloons - even balloons with eyeballs that could be used to make animals and balloon people.

Mixing different sizes and shapes of balloons and using twisting balloons gives you more options and possibilities for coming up with balloon decoration ideas. This lens gives some unique ways to use balloon decorations.

For years, I'd been slowly tying off the end of a balloon by looping it around one finger and attempting to shove the end through the loop that was, of course, so tightly wrapped around my single finger that it was nearly impossible. I've spent hours with that finger worn and cut from tying lots of balloons.

I thought I was so slick when I'd figured out how to roll a balloon end between two fingers to tie off the end. I'll never be able to describe how silly I felt when I'd learned from a friend how to make balloon decorations by tying balloons together in pairs. Wow! So much simpler and easier to make most of the more popular balloon decorations like balloon columns and balloon arches. This lens gives some step by step instructions for these decorations.

It didn't take long after learning how to make balloon flowers that these quickly became my favorite balloon decoration. I love flowers anyway and I love balloons, so putting the two together and being able to make all kinds of colored balloon flowers meant some really quick but absolutely beautiful party decor.

My only challenge with balloon flowers is that I have all boys. They aren't quite as appreciative of flowers as I am. Fortunately, I can use them for baby showers for friends, work party events, block parties with the neighbors or just an evening at my house with my friends.
