Ballroom dance shoes have to fit several criteria. For one, and most importantly, they must be comfortable. No one is able to dance the foxtrot with shoes that hurt their toes.

Store purchased shoes come in basic designs, and so you are likely to end up with a pair of ballroom dance shoes that someone else you know wears as well. Custom made shoes are certainly more expensive as they are made to fit your feet like a dream, but they can be more varied in design, and so will beyond doubt stand out from the rest.
