When I discovered these bamboo stair treads, I was amazed!
I went over to my friend's house and they had these stairs put in about three or four years ago. They still look great and when I saw him last month, he was thinking about putting in more bamboo in his house. I really like to encourage people to use bamboo because of all the great benefits to the environment (saving trees being my #1 benefit). But also, since bamboo grows so fast it requires a lot less land to have a bamboo plantation on.
But anyway, back to these great bamboo stair treads. Each treads is the full width of a normal stair part so there's no problem fitting them in your house. They are light and sturdy.
My friend also put in a bamboo railing and it matches the stair treads perfectly.
You can see some of his pictures o the website of Four Winds Bamboo where he bought the material. View pictures of the bamboo stair treads.

Just look at these Bamboo Stair Treads!
I love the clean look and the great color.
So how do they do it?
Well, it's a lot like how they make bamboo flooring. Bamboo stalks are cut into sections and those sections from around the stalk are then milled into rectangular pieces that get glued together to make the stair treads. Bamboo has been around for a long time, it's just that this idea is finally catching on.I think some of theses staircases are the environmental bomb-diggidy/
