Bananagrams Game - A Fast, Fun Game With Tiles

Bananagrams is a family game that is fast-paced, loads of fun and can go anywhere! Bananagrams is a lot like Scrabble, but each person plays their own tiles as fast as they can.

You don't have to keep score on paper - you just need a flat surface to play on. Play it anywhere, even in the backyard since the tiles can't blow away. We actually leave one set in the car so we'll have it available wherever we go!

* comes in a soft banana-shaped pouch
* lightning fast
* portable - toss in your purse or luggage
* excellent for your brain

Bananagrams is a word game using tiles, sort of like Scrabble but much quicker. You don't have to worry about someone stealing your perfect spot, or trying to create a word on an extra points space. You don't have to wait ten minutes for someone to take a turn, either!

The Bananagrams game is challenging, but it's also lightning fast. One game can last under 5 minutes. It's perfect for family game night, because anyone from age seven and up can play. If you're having extended family over, you can combine two or more Banagrams sets for bigger family fun! This is a great, unique and completely portable game that everyone will love. It can even be played solitaire - challenge yourself by using all 144 tiles.

And it makes a great Christmas gift or stocking stuffer.

How To Play Bananagrams

Bananagrams instructions are really so simple. Mix up the Bananagrams tiles and place them upside down on the table. This is called the "bunch." Each player takes tiles from the "bunch," 21 tiles for 2-4 players, 15 tiles for 5-6 players and 11 tiles for 7 or more players.

Bananagrams rules:

  • Any player says "SPLIT" and everyone turns their tiles face up and begins to form their OWN intersecting words.

  • Everybody playes their own tiles and they don't add to other players' tiles.

  • When someone has used all their letters, they say "PEEL" and each player must take one more tile.

  • At any time, a player may say "DUMP" and turn in a difficult-to-use tile, but that player must then take 3 tiles in return.

  • Play continues until there are fewer tiles in the "bunch" than there are players.

  • The first player who has used all their tiles says "BANANAS" and wins the game!

Pairs in Pears Game

A Comparison to the Bananagram Word Game

Pairs in Pears GameIf you're looking for portable fun in a game, Pairs in Pears is ideal. The whole game is carried in a pear shaped pouch, and the attractive letter tiles, which feature letters in four different designs - lines, solid, dots and outlined letters, are used to make pairs of intersecting words that are all in the same pattern. The only thing you need to play is a flat surface to make your words on.

This game is fun, fast and educational for kids age five and up, and helps kids to develop cognitive and memory skills, while learning about rhyming, vocabulary, and word construction. And the best thing? It's fun for older kids and adults, too!

If you're looking for a fun game for kids to enjoy together, or to bring out for family game night, try Pairs in Pears. It moves quickly and gets applause for its creativity factor and fun factor, too!

The Appletters Game

Versus Bananagrams: The Game

Appletters GameIt plays just like dominoes, only with letters! The Appletters game is great fun for kids and adults who like to work with words. The 110 letter tiles with red capital letters make this fast-paced spelling game lots of fun, with several different play variations so that both younger and older kids can have a blast with it.

With Appletters, which comes in a nifty apple-shaped pouch, you play domino style, but you connect letters instead of dots. You don't need anything but the game itself, and up to six players can play at once, so it's great for a family, or for when you have a group of kids all in one spot. Appletters is an educational game that teaches spelling and vocabulary skills, but it's so much fun, it won't feel like an educational toy at all.

Scrabble Apple Game

Parker Brothers Version of Bananagrams

Scrabble Apple GameKids will love this! It's the Scrabble Apple game by Parker Brothers and it's perfect for people who love word games, but don't like the slow moving pace of Scrabble. With Scrabble Apple, you flip each letter tile over one at a time.

When you see a word, you shout it out! And if you can make a new word with one of your opponent's words, you can steal their word from them! Kids from age eight and up can play, and adults like it, too, so it's perfect for getting the whole family involved, and it's also a great way to increase vocabulary and spelling skills. (But don't tell your kids.)

Another great feature of Scrabble Apple is that it's portable. There's no big clumsy game board, just a soft pouch with tiles. You can take it anywhere, so if the kids want to share their game with grandma and grandpa or take it for a sleepover, it's no problem!

    We have Sorry. It's fast paced but it doesn't build language skills like the ones you mention here. Thanks!

    Looks fun! We play a lot of Scrabble but I think we would also like to change up the pace once in a while. Any tips on how to make the game more fair when playing with little kids?

    You can handicap the adults by having them draw 2 tiles for every 1 tile that the kids draw. You can give the little kids the letters that spell their name. You can have the little kids just make words without having to make a crossword with them. It's a very fun game!

    Banagrams are actually pretty cool. I gave these to my nieces a few years back and they really liked them. They're also big Monopoly fans, but I like chess (though I'm not very good at it).
