The Banuae Rice Terraces



The Banaue Rice Terraces of the Philippines is located in the Northern part of the of Luzon. Built by the ancestors of that area thousand years ago with their bare hands and still exist to these days. The mountains stood high from 6,000 to 7,000 feet high engraved on it is the rice paddies connected to each other forming a terrace. The terraces starts from he bottom and continues around to the tip of the high mountains.

The rice terraces are organically farmed to produce rice, which is the staple food of the Filipinos.The rice terraces is fed by the water coming from the mountains, directed to the rice fields through a water irrigation that follows the terrain of the rice terraces. Use of bamboos as pipes and other natural resources to sustain the farming all year round.The terraces is not owned by just one or two person but is owned by many of the ancestors and was passed from one generation to the other.

This is the rice paddies ready to be planted.The rice seed are grown from a different area and are then transplanted into these prepared rice paddies where they are watered and nurtured till harvest time.

The rice are the other part of the rice are harvested and the other are still maturing. They are mature and ready to be harvested when they turned golden yellow.

The grain look green and is not ready to harvest. when the rice is ready to be harvested, the grain will turn golden brown.

Rice Paddies Everywhere

Rice paddies are everywhere in the Cordillera regions of the Philippines. Almost every family 2 or more rice paddies. They grow their own rice. Most of the time, the rice harvest from these paddies are more enough to supply the family's need of rice until the next harvest.

Rice,the Staple Food of the Filipinos

Rice is the staple food of Asians.The Filipinos eat rice for breakfast, lunch and more rice at dinner time.It is cooked in many ways. Breakfast usually is served as fried rice.Rice sauteed with some vegetables like peas and carrots. With chopped meat,chicken or shrimp. But for lunch and dinner are cooked white.

There are many kinds or rice.The Basmati rice,jasmine rice and the brown rice just to name a few.We also have the sticky that are used for sushi recipes. Rice can be cooked in many ways. Can be made as main dish or desert, it's all from rice.

My Favorite Breakfast

Traditional Basic Egg Fried Rice

Ingredients:

1 bowl cold boiled rice
1 egg, beat
1 tablespoon light soya sauce
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1/4 cup water

Preparation:

1. Heat oil on high in a wok or a deep saucepan.
2. Stir in beaten egg and fry for about 1 minute.
3. Add in soya sauce and water, stir well.
4. Separate the fried egg into tiny pieces with the spatula.
5. Pour in rice, stir well with sauce.
6. Turn heat to medium and continue to fry for 2-3 minutes, or till rice is golden brown.
7. Serves 1.

Cook Rice the Easiest Way

Don't know how to cook rice? It is not at all difficult.It is easy as 123. The traditional way of cooking rice in the Philippines is boiling the rice with the appropriate amount of water. If you are not used to cooking rice,your rice may be too much water or too little. Too much will turn like a pudding and too little will be like you are eating a raw rice.

With the use of rice cooker.you will not have any error.Your rice will be perfect as there is already a precalculated amount of water for white as well as brown rice.
