How to Tie a Bandana - Headband
Wear a bandana showing your hair - 5 Steps to tie a bandana:
If you intend to wear your bandana around the head, showing your hair, try tying it like a headband:Here's a step by step guide how to best fold your bandana:
Step 1:
Determine how wide the headband will be. Usually bandana headbands are tied between two and two-and-a-half inches wide.
Step 2:
Fold the bandana several times along the diagonal line. By folding on the diagonal line you achieve that the bandana remains as long as possible.
Start by first folding the bandana in half diagonally, then start folding from the short end where two edges are on top of each other towards the widest part where the fold is. Keep the desired width of about 2 inches in mind and avoid folding it too large.
Step 3:
Now that you have a long, about two inches wide band, wrap the bandana around your head. Place the bandana where it will be worn on the head. Now pull the ends so that they meet at the nape of the neck.
Step 4:
Fasten the bandana with a square knot. A square knot is a secure knot that is quite easy to untie: Take the two ends and tie the left hand side over the right hand side, then tie an other knot on top, this time you tie the right hand side over the left hand end. It is also possible to start with the right hand side as long as the next tie is with the left side. Make sure your knot is tied tight enough so that the bandana will not slip or even fall off.
Step 5:
Style your hair. The hair can be pulled up into a ponytail or left down. Another stylish option is to pull some hair out to frame the face from the bangs. If you are a guy you do not need to worry about this step too much, unless you have long hair and want to look cool.
Bandana - History
A kerchief (from the French couvre-chef, "cover the head") is a triangular or square piece of cloth tied around the head or around the neck for protective or decorative purposes. The popularity of head kerchiefs may vary by culture or religion, as among Amish women, Orthodox Jewish women, Muslim women, and older Slavic women.
A "handkerchief" or "hanky" primarily refers to a napkin made of cloth, used to dab away perspiration, clear the sinuses, or, in Victorian times, as a means of flirtation. A woman could intentionally drop a dainty square of lacy or embroidered fabric to give a favored man a chance to pick it up as an excuse to speak to her while returning it. Handkerchiefs were sometimes scented to be used like a nosegay or tussy-mussy, a way of protecting those who could afford them from the obnoxious scents in the street.
A bandanna or bandana (from the Hindi: ????? bandhana, "to tie") is a type of large, usually colorful, kerchief, usually worn on the head. Bandannas are frequently printed in a paisley pattern.
Bandannas are worn as a practical garment by:
* Outdoor workers such as farmers and cowboys, who wear them around the neck to wipe the sweat off their faces and keep dust out of their collars.
* Wildland firefighters, who wear them over the mouth and nose to lessen inhalation of dust and fumes.
* Dancers and other athletes, who wear them during practice as a simple way of keeping hair and sweat out of their faces.
*Some soldiers wear bandannas to keep the...
Crips Gang Bandanas
The Crips wear blue bandanas
Bandanas are not always as innocent as they might seem. Large gangs use them as part of their uniform, the CRIPS use predominantly blue bandanas.
The Crips are a primarily, but not exclusively, African American gang founded in Los Angeles, California in 1969 mainly by 16-year-old Raymond Washington and Stanley Williams. What was once a single gang is now a loosely connected network of individual sets, often engaged in open warfare with one another.
The Crips are one of the largest and most violent associations of street gangs in the United states.U.S. Department of Justice, Crips, p.1. with an estimated 30,000 to 35,000 members. The gang is known to be involved in murders, robberies, drug dealing, among many other criminal pursuits. The gang is notorious for its gang members' flamboyant use of the color blue in their clothing. However, this practice has waned due to contentious police crackdowns on gang members.
Crips are publicly known to have an intense and bitter rivalry with the Bloods as well as various Hispanic street gangs, such as Mara Salvatrucha.
Crips have been documented in the U.S. military, found in bases in the United States and abroad.[http://walkndude.wordpress.com/2008/03/08/fbi-says-us-criminal-gangs-are-using-military-to-spread-their-reach/][http://www.military.com/news/article/gangs-increasing-in-military-fbi-says.html]
