Band Of Brothers On Blue Ray DVD

Band Of Brothers is likely to be one of the best translations of a book into a film (mini-series) you're ever going to see. The script of the mini-series, masterfully produced by Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg, stays very close to Stephen Ambrose's great book.

As the mini-series dates back nearly a decade, you may own the DVD set (released in 2001), and you may have watched it several times. Question is then - is Band of Brothers Blue ray a real upgrade when watched on a 1080P screen - or is the Blu-ray players upscaling to 1080i sufficient? There's only one way of putting it - with Band Of Brothers Blue Ray you're in for a visual treat.

Whether or not you're familiar with the whole series, you'll find that watching the Blu-Ray version is well worth the cost of buying the series again. It is especially great to watch the Blu-Ray set on a bigger screen (46 to 52 inch). Don't get me wrong, the upconverted DVD's look good, but the Blu-Ray discs look much better - exceptionally detailed, and as a result they end up having a lot more emotional impact.

Maybe that's a reason that Band Of Brothers Blue ray has found its way into the top ten of best selling Blu-Ray DVDs on Amazon.com (#3 at the time of writing this) - which is quite impressive for a nearly 10 year old mini-series - competing with the latest movie releases. Quality never fails!

The Band Of Brothers Story

Band Of Brothers Blue Ray is based on the bestseller by Stephen E. Ambrose. It's an epic 10-part miniseries, telling the story of Easy Company, 506th Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division, U.S. Army, right from boot camp through to the end of WW2.

Based on interviews with survivors of Easy Company, as well as soldiers' journals and letters, Band of Brothers tells the story of the extraordinary bravery of Easy Company, and the fears they faced taking part in some of the most difficult battles of WW2. Easy Company was an elite rifle company parachuting into France early on D-Day morning, fighting in the Battle of the Bulge, liberating a concentration camp and finally capturing Hitler's Eagle's Nest at Berchtesgaden.

They were also a unit that suffered 150 percent casualties, and whose lives became legend.

This miniseries offer a thorough account that would be impossible to fit into a two-hour movie, while capturing the motions of war in an unprecedented manner: Stress, trauma, fear, cynicism, cruelty, compassion and confusion. The result is a scary realism beyond anything seen before. The price these soldiers had to pay on all levels is made clear throughout, through superb writing, directing, and acting. Band of Brothers turns a vast historical event into a series of potent personal experiences; it's a deeply engrossing and affecting accomplishment.

I think Band Of Brothers is a brilliant mini-series. My only disappointment is the casting of David Schwimmer, who I find hard to take in a serious role having seen him in Friends.
