Bangkok Boutique Hotels - What is it and Where to Find Them

Bangkok is a city filled with the best hotels in the world as proclaimed by some of the most popular main stream magazines. But Bangkok's Boutique Hotels which are basically smaller sized hotels with a special emphasis on quality an unobtrusive service. These are hotels where guests can feel like they are actually at home - without the over excessive pampering most luxury hotels in Bangkok provide. Best thing of all is the affordable budget room rates offered by Bangkok's boutique hotels.

Many of these hotels are found on the outskirts of Bangkok such as in Khao San Road, the always popular haven for backpackers. Of course the most popular ones are situated right in the heart of Bangkok and close to shopping, attractions and the city's notorious red light districts and nightlife adult entertainment establishments.

I mentioned that most of Bangkok's boutique hotels are in the budget price range. These hotels, especially the ones listed below are very popular indeed.

Best Times to Visit Bangkok

And tips on how you can save money on hotel bookings in Bangkok

Bangkok is a wonderful place to visit year round. However, if you are afraid of the high heat and humidity then you might want to avoid visiting from late March to early October. But those are the months when hotel rates throughout Thailand are about 30% to 40% lower and the cooler months are considerably higher.

Fortunately since visitors are reluctant to visit as a result of the recent 2010 political situation (which is currently under control as of writing) hotels in Bangkok have reduced their room rates up to 50% year round. So there really is no better time than now to start planning a vacation of a lifetime in Bangkok.

Another way to get really good discounts on hotels in Bangkok is to book a hotel room through a hotel reservation agency based in Bangkok.

Tips on Where to Stay in Bangkok

And how to get the best hotel rates!

Bangkok is not a big city. Though it is composed of several districts. Most of the center of city activity takes place in central Bangkok, in the districts of Sukhumvit and Silom. Those are the 2 major districts where you'll find restaurants, shopping and nightlife activities catering to foreigners and expats. And that's where most visitors choose to make their stay, because of it's convenience and proximity to the BTS Sky Train and MRT underground train systems.

However, if you want a bit of peace and quiet you may want to consider staying by the old historic Banglamphu district and most famous for Khao San Road. Consider staying in a boutique hotel such as Navalai River Resort. Though it is a bit far off from central Bangkok you can still get there easily by hopping on a Express River Boat Ferry for a 30 minute ride and transferring to a Sky Train. But there's plenty of shopping and eating to do at nearby Khao San Road of course so it's an exciting place as well.

All of the hotels I recommend below have been popular places to stay for tourists from all over the world. I've linked the hotels with local licensed hotel reservation agencies in Bangkok who offer the best competitive rates. And that's really the key to getting the best hotel deals in Bangkok, by booking through a local agency online. You will also be able to find the exact location of the boutique hotels as well as current and most importantly genuine guests reviews.

Baiyoke Boutique Hotel Bangkok

A budget boutique hotel in Bangkok's popular shopper's paradise

Baiyoke Boutique HotelBaiyoke Boutique Hotel
120/359 Radprarop Road, Rajthevee
Pratunam / Siam, Bangkok
Room rates start @1400THB

.

The name Baiyoke is a well known hotel group in Bangkok - most popular for owning the highest hotel in Thailand called the Baiyoke Sky Hotel. Though their sister property nearby called Baiyoke Boutique Hotel may not be as big, but the value and quality of this hotel is impressive.

The rooms at this popular little boutique hotel are quite clean but with so many guests staying here due to it's low room rated and popularity much of the hotel is seeing a lot of wear and tear. Good news is that the hotel is still well run and managed so they try really hard to upkeep the quality of their rooms.

The real positives about staying here will put you in strategic place for some of the best shopping district for wholesalers in clothes and many other types of knick knack items. The biggest place for purchasing clothes in bulk or even if you need one pair of jeans is called Pratunam Market. Need your computer fixed or a set of new memory for your laptop. Head over to Panthip Plaza, Bangkok's premier center for all manners of computer hardware and peripherals.

The only real negative about staying here is that the traffic on the roads surrounding this hotel is the worst in Bangkok during peak hours. There are 2 BTS Sky Train stations though within 15 minute walking distance but that kind of walking during a hot day in Bangkok can be a bit too much.

Paradiso Boutique Suites

New hotel in a top location

Paradiso Boutique SuitesParadiso Boutique Suites
Sukhumvit Soi 10
Sukhumvit, Bangkok
Room rates start at 1500THB

.

This up and coming little boutique hotel is situated in Bangkok's busiest district called Sukhumvit, whether it is night or day. And with the BTS Sky Train station and MRT underground station nearby you won't have any trouble at all getting to popular shopping malls like Siam Paragon, Central World and MBK. And there are plenty of nightlife activities nearby such as the go go bars of Soi Cowboy and the clubs and bars on Soi 11.

The Paradiso's standard rooms are a bit small at 20 sq. m. but still very modern and clean. Most will be fine with a standard room but if you want you can always book a slightly larger superior room which cost just a few hundreds baht more per night. There's no gym or swimming pool but the good news is there is free wi-fi.

For a budget traveler needing to stay in the heart of all the action Paradiso Boutique Suites is a recommended choice.

Bedrooms Boutique Hotel

A great place to stay in a quiet neighborhood

Bedrooms Boutique Hotel
204/24 Sukhumvit 77 Road
Sukhumvit, Bangkok
Room rates start @ 1335THB

.

Even though Bedrooms Boutique Hotel is located on the far end of Sukhumvit Road you can still get to all of the best shopping malls and areas of interest easily because there is a BTS Sky Train station just a few minutes walk. But the real benefit of staying here is that it is a new hotel. For travelers with young children in tow, it's a good choice because it's not near any of the red light districts. And there is a big supermarket nearby where you can easily shop for food or grab a bite in it's food courts at an affordable price.

Bedroom's room styles are all contemporary and again since it is a new hotel the furnishings are not worn down through the years. And even though it is not a smallish hotel like the other boutique hotels mentioned here service is still decent and friendly. Guest here can also enjoy a good workout in the hotel's small fitness center with decent modern equipment

Salil Sukhumvit Hotel Soi 8

A nice and extremely affordable boutique style hotel

Salil Sukhumvit Hotel Soi 8
50/1 Sukhumvit soi 8
Sukhumvit, Bangkok
Room rates starting @ 1800THB

Salil Hotel is a real treat for budget travelers looking to stay in Sukhumvit district, an area where food, drink and hotels are normally on the pricey side since is considered a busy area in Bangkok. Though it is located down a quiet lane of Soi 8 the Salil is a small charming boutique hotel. Most would be surprised in with its colonial design with modern touches such as large flat screen televisions.

As mentioned this is a small hotel so you will get attentive service. The only drawback is that there is no elevator, though there are only 4 floors in this hotel. It's not a problem for most but you can always request a room on the lower floors if one is available. And since the hotel is situated a bit far from the main road there is a complimentary tuk tuk service to take you to the nearest Sky Train station.

Salil's hotel location is really good for exploring Bangkok, especially for those who'd like to participate in the city's seedy nightlife. There are 2 red light districts nearby called Nana and Soi Cowboy. And a word of caution for traveling families is that there are many ladies of the night where men can purchase their company on the main road of Sukhumvit at night time. Don't worry the area is quiet safe and there are many visitors from all over the world besides sex tourists.

Sacha's Hotel Uno

Comfort and style at an affordable price

Navalai River ResortSacha's Hotel Uno
28/19 Sukhumvit Soi 19
Bangkok, Thailand
Room rates start @ 1900THB

Here's a boutique hotel I've been recommending since they opened in 2000. Sacha's Hotel Uno is also in central Bangkok, right near the intersection of Sukhumvit and Asoke roads. This is a very busy area with many bars and restaurants nearby. It's also located between two red light districts as well as a slew of upscale bars and lounges nearby.

The superior rooms at Sacha's Hotel Uno are a bit small too but the super comfortable beds and pillows plus well decorated rooms might make you forget about the cramp spaces. That said nothing, sometimes it's worth paying a few hundred baht more to get a bigger room.

Location wise Sacha's is close to many places of interest in Bangkok such as the nightlife establishments and massage parlors. Of course the Sky Train and MRT stations are nearby too so you won't be too far from other areas of interest in Bangkok.

Siam Heritage Boutique Hotel

A peaceful oasis in Bangkok's infamous Patpong red light district

Baiyoke Boutique HotelSiam Heritage Boutique Hotel
115/1 Surawongse Road
Silom / Sathorn, Bangkok
Room rates starting @ 2500THB

Here is one of our favorite boutique hotels in Bangkok located in the business district called Silom. Don't be disturbed because there are many go go bars and unsavory sights because it is near Patpong red light district. Though it is quite safe with so many foreign tourists of all ages wandering through the streets at night.

Siam Heritage Boutique Hotel is a wonderful modern hotel with traditional Thai flair. There emphasis on guest satisfaction is echoed through many positive reviews by guests. Rooms here are clean and very well maintained by housekeepers. And it's one of the few hotels in the area with a swimming pool at the price range.

There are 2 night markets nearby. The closest one is Patpong's Night Market which opens from 7pm to 1am and is located right on the streets of Patpong 1 sandwiched between go go bars, retail shops and restaurants. The second is located a bit further away but you can easily get there by taxi or the MRT underground train station which is very close to the hotel. Even the always efficient Sky Train is just a 5 minute walk. This is a highly recommended boutique style hotel!

Silom Serene Boutique Hotel

A quiet oasis in Bangkok's busy commercial business district

Baiyoke Boutique HotelSilome Serene Boutique Hotel
Silom Soi 3
Silom, Bangkok
Room rates start @ 2100THB

Named after Bangkok's commercial business district - Silom Serene Boutique Hotel is situated in the quiet lane of Soi 3 off Silom road. Though it is not a new hotel it is still remarkably well maintained by courteous and helpful staff. The rooms have been refurbished with a nice modern touch and there is a very small pool in the garden with room for just a few sun chairs. Though don't expect to get much of a tan since the adjacent buildings block the sunlight.

The major advantage of staying at Silom Serene is the location itself. It is a quiet place during the day time but when night time arrives the area springs to life through Patpong red light district and it's symbiotic night market - all just a 5 minute walk across Silom road. There's even a small Japan Town too with many nightlife adult entertainment catering to Japanese expats and clientele. Yes, though Patpong is on the seedy side is it still quite safe because there are many people with a heavy police presence. Then all over are many excellent places to get a massage or grab a bite to eat whether it be Thai, Irish pub and even Western fast food chains like McDonald's and Burger King.

For slower pace action check out Lumphini Night Bazaar, which is just a one stop train station away by underground MRT station - which is not far from SIlom Serene. There you can shop for souvenirs, eat and drink at it's lively beer garden. Another point of interest is the Lumphini Park, a nice little patch of green space with a lake to walk around.

The Sky Train and MRT stations are not too far from Silom Serene so you will be able to visit most of the other attractions in Bangkok easily and on the cheap.

Navalai River Resort

A nice little hotel by the Chao Phraya River near Khao San Road

Navalai River ResortNavalai River Resort
45/1-2 Phra Athit Road, Phra Nakorn, Khaosan
Bangkok, Thailand
Room rates starting @ 2050THB

Bangkok can get quite chaotic due to its often congested traffic. So if quiet is what you want in a place where you can sit back and watch the sun go down by the river then Navalai is the right place for you. This small resort packs a lot of modern Thai style and unique rooms. Though rooms with river views cost a bit more they sure are worth it. Though even if you get a non river facing room you will still be happy with the quality of the hotel. And there's even a nice little small pool to relax in a hot day.

Now the Navalai River Resort is located a bit away from central Bangkok's major shopping departments - which are always worth a visit. But there is a express river boat pier right next to the hotel. The express boat will take you to a BTS Sky Train station in 30 minutes, and from there it's a short train ride to central Bangkok.

But there are plenty of attractions to visit near Navalai River Resort because staying here will put you right walking distance to Khao San Road and the majestic Grand Palace and the serene Wat Pho Temple.

Shanghai Mansion Hotel Bangkok

A unique hotel in the heart of Bangkok's vivacious Chinatown

Shanghai Mansion Hotel Bangkok
479-481 Yaowaraj Road
Samphantawong, Chinatown, Bangkok
Room rates starting @ 2800THB

This is one of the best hotels in Bangkok's Chinatown. Shanghai Mansion is new and very professionally run property with beautiful Chinese decorations throughout - from the gorgeous lobby to the wonderfully detailed rooms. It was even recently named one of the best valued hotels by Sunday Times travel magazine in 2010.

And this hotel really does offer a real good value since WiFi is free and a free breakfast is included along with the room rate.

Keep in mind though that the only negative side to staying in the Chinatown area is that it is a bit far from central Bangkok. where all the major shopping centers are located. However you can easily walk to the nearest underground train station called the MRT in 10 minutes. And during the weekend traffic is the worst.

The good side is that you will be near Bangkok's old and historic districts so you can easily get to Khao San Road, Grand Palace and Wat Pho.

Dream Hotel Bangkok

A first boutique hotel in Bangkok's popular bar and club district

Baiyoke Boutique HotelDream Hotel Bangkok
10 Sukhumvit Soi 15
Sukhumvit, Bangkok
Room rates starting @ 3600THB

The Sukhumvit district is located in central Bangkok, amidst the city's raunchy red light districts, posh bars and clubs, and many businesses catering to tourist and expats. It's also where Dream Hotel is located and normally I wouldn't list them here because their room rates are bit pricey. However, since they've literally reduced their room rates for their standard rooms in half I had to let everyone know. Dream hotel is really one of the best places to stay in Bangkok.

Since it is a newish hotel with professional management Dream Hotel is in pristine condition with rooms that are ultra modern and chic. Guests have access to a tiny pool and fitness center to enjoy. But the real bonus about staying here is the neighborhood. For those who are interested the seedy red light districts you'd be glad to know Dream Hotel is within walking distance to Nana and Soi Cowboy - 2 of Bangkok's most infamous go go bar dens. And if it's modern clubs and bars then take a short walk to Soi 11 where you will find hip Thais mingling with foreign faces in the poshest clubs.

And what to do if you want to party but don't want to venture out at Dream Hotel. It's easy, head over to Flava Bar and Lounge found in the lobby and you will find an excellent bar with some of the best grooves to relax and enjoy a fabulous night.

Dream Hotel is also close to Bangkok's 2 train systems, the BTS Sky Train and the underground MRT. Making it quite easy to get around Bangkok's popular tourist attractions.
