Bangkok Hotel Reviews - Silom and Patpong Nightlife Area
Ranked #1,556 in Travel & Places, #58,172 overall
Best Bangkok Hotels to Stay in Near Silom and Patpong
Out of all the places in Bangkok, Silom is where I have my fondest memories. This was where I first began to familiarize myself with this exotic city and started my journey to the culture that I admire so much.
The area surrounding Silom is considered the financial and commercial district in the vibrant city of Bangkok. By day it's a bustling metropolis with salary men and woman rushing to their offices.
The prices for the hotels I reviewed and recommend here range from 950 THB to 3750 THB and are in prime spots.
By night Silom is visited by thousands of tourist who flock and gravitate towards the neon lights and glow of Patpong, Bangkok's most well known red light district. There you can find bars, pubs and go-go bars that cater to mostly to male clientele either gay, straight or both. It's not a dangerous area as most people might think. Matter of fact it's quite safe since there are plenty of police around. However be mindful of your wallet as pick pocketing happens to unsuspecting tourist.
It's quite common to see curious old, young, couples and even families with kids walking around with single males who are prowling for midnight company. There's more to Patpong then just scantily clad go-go dancers and raunchy massage parlors. There are lots of international restaurants to check out such as English pubs with some great pub fare and micro brewed beer. There are also some really cool clubs to enjoy a beer, people watch and tap your feet to talented live bands from all over.
Then there's the Patpong Night Market, a two aisle shopping haven that is sandwiched between the go-go bars and clubs of Patpong. Counterfeit goods, Thai souvenirs, clothing and various odds and ends are for sale here. Go ahead and buy that t-shirt, but put away the cash for the fake Rolex, please. Use the money for a nice massage instead.

It's customary to haggle, it's expected because the prices for products here are inflated. But be respectful when you haggle, contrary to guide books, Thai people do get angry and when push comes to shove they'll shove.
Here's a haggling tip; the first initial price you get, slash it by half. And then work your way down or whatever price you are comfortable with. You'll also get a better price when you shop early just before a vendor opens and when they're about to close.
Another nearby area of interest is Suan Lum Night Market and Bazaar. Just 5 minutes away by taxi from any of the hotels I recommended here. Suan Lum Night Market and Bazaar has a huge International food court and beer garden. Some great bars and restaurants as well as some shopping can be found there. There are talks about shutting it down to make way for commercial buildings. A real shame if that ever happens. So if you're around and it's still up then don't miss it.
Great Bangkok Hotels in Patpong/Silom
All the hotels I recommend here are very close to Patpong, some are just less then a 3 minute walk across the street. But most importantly all of these hotels are near an MRT station or Sky Train BTS station so that you can get around to tourist attractions, shopping malls and other popular nightlife venues in central Bangkok easily.
With so many hotels around Patong, why did I choose to recommend these hotels?
These are hotels that I myself and other reviewers have personally stayed in from all the years I have been traveling and working in Bangkok. I choose and recommend hotels by thinking about what most travelers like you want to know when they are searching and researching hotels, such as:
1. Location of hotel
2. Cleanliness of rooms
3. Cost per night
4. Proximity to MRT and BTS stations (see train map below)
5. Main attractions in the surrounding area
All of the hotels listed below meet all of the above criteria. Hotels are not a place to just sleep as most will say. After all if you can find a great deal on a nice hotel, why would anyone want to stay in cheap bad hotel? Staying in the right hotel and having a good experience is paramount to having a vacation your friends will envy.
Listed hotels here are priced from low to high. Every hotel I recommend here have air conditioning in rooms. I bring that up because Bangkok can get hot!

Information on Bangkok's MRT/BTS train systems
There are 3 convenient transfer points between the MRT and BTS

Bangkok's MRT and BTS (Sky Train) are very affordable and I highly recommend you get around with them whenever you can, even you if have to take a taxi to a station. Bangkok's road system is notorius for traffic jams where cars, trucks and buses are at a total stand still for hours. For each of the hotels I review I'm going to put the nearest MRT or BTS station in orange text
Bangkok's Mass Rail Transit (MRT) is an under ground subway train running from Hua Lumphong Station near Chinatown to Mo Chit Station where the Chatuchak Weekend Market can be found. Along the way there are stops to major commercial and nightlife hotspots such as Silom and Sukhumvit. The train fare is very affordable and are easily purchased through a touch screen computer with english translations. Just tap in your destination, pay, and a computerized round plastic chip is your way to get pass the turnstyle. Make sure you keep the chip because once you get to your destination you have to put it into a slot or else you can't get pass the turnstyle.
Bangkok's Transit System (BTS) is an elevated (because the trains are elevated it's also called the Sky Train) two line train system running along two major routes, Silom and Sukhumvit. Very cheap, efficient and quick just like the MRT. It's the best way to get around as most of the stops are right at the front steps of most major department shops and nightlife hotspots. Fares can be purchased as per need basis or if you're staying in Bangkok for awhile it is best to purchase a discounted fare pass at the station's booth.
Most of the MRT and BTS stations are adjacent to about 70% to 80% percent of tourist attractions in central Bangkok. Both the MRT and BTS open and operate between 6am to 12am. Be prepared to wait longer during rush hour and weekends as these trains can get quite packed with people. Quick, clean, affordable, efficient and very easy to use and get around as the signs and maps are in English. But most importantly it is well air conditioned. This is the best way to get around Bangkok so be sure to take full advantage.
Currently there are BTS tracks being built leading to Suvarnabhumi International Airport with connections to some main BTS hub. This will certainly cut down some taxi (not that taxi rides from airports are expensive) travel cost as well as speed up your trip to the center of Bangkok.

Map of Silom District in Bangkok

The red light areas consist mainly of Patpong 1 and Patpong 2. You can find the Patpong's Night Market pictured above located on Patpong 1, between Silom Road and Surawongse Road. Shopping can be done along Silom Road as well. To be honest Patpong is not hard to find. If you see a large roaming crowd of tourist jam packed in a street full of bars and shopping outside on the street, then you're near Patpong.
Soi Thaniya caters to Japanese expats and business men. If you're not Japanese or have Japanese friends you will not be allowed in. It's expensive anyways. Boys Town is a dead end soi for gay clientele.
For some decent tender steak check out Mizu's Kitchen on 32 Patpong Soi 1, near BTS Sala Daeng and MRT Silom.
Here's a tip. Never hire taxis that are parked along Silom. Always hail a taxi that is moving with traffic. Parked taxis near tourist destinations are more likely to take you for a ride (no pun intended). If the driver doesn't turn on the "Meter" just gently remind him to turn it on. The word meter is understood in Thailand especially Bangkok.
Lub d Bangkok Hotel/Hostel
Rates starting at 1100THB
Lub d Bangkok certainly takes the award for the strangest name for a hotel/hostel. But they have won some awards for being one of the best hostels in the world. To be quite honest I've only been to a few hostels when I was a youngster but when I checked out Lub d in Bangkok for this review, I've found that they are quite a stylish hostel. There are many room configurations from 8 beds to private rooms with a private bath. Most of the rooms have an electronic safe to keep your valuables. Overall this is a fancy looking hostel and very clean and well maintained.
The location is not bad at all, the river is not too far away and you can use public boats to explore the old parts of Bangkok up north. The nearest train is at Chong Nongsi BTS Station, about 10 minutes walk eastwards. Patpong Sex District is a 15 minute walk east as well, but don't plan on taking a bar girl back to your room unless you want to pay extra.
The immediate area of Lub d is a bit quiet and most of the international scene is in the Patpong area. But you can find lots of side street restaurants that serve cheap and delicious foods. Don't worry if you can't speak Thai, just point at what you want to eat and they'll figure out the rest.
Since Lub d is mostly a hostel there are plenty of young people from all over the world staying here. There's even a womens only dormitory and a hip and trendy cafe serving decently priced coffee and pastry on the ground floor. This is a really modern hostel with free Internet access and Wi-Fi, key-cards for rooms and even a nice little laundry room. Lub d is a very nice hotel and deserve their rewards.

- Lub D is a good valued standard hotel, but what is not standard is the friendly service from hotel staff. Always with a smile they helped our family during our short stay. We stayed in a bunk bedrooms which our children love. Though the beds are a little narrow. Good thing we were always so tired we just slept fast. You can walk to the river to catch the ferry boats or to the train station. Patpong is the nearest attraction and okay to walk around because the night market.

- A really good value in a decent location. Though the train station is nearby it's still a bit of a walk through heavy vehicle traffic from Silom road. Overall I would still come back if I can't find another cheaper hostel.

Regent Silom Hotel in Bangkok
Rates starting at 1350THB per night
The Regent Silom in Bangkok is right in the heart of the central business district. By day it's streets are bustling with office workers making their way to work. By night Silom is transformed into one of Bangkok's wildest red light district Patpong
Regent Silom is tucked away in an alley near a lot of businesses where gays like to hang out. The area is tight so there are rooms with no windows. The rooms themselves are clean and tidy and quite comfortable. Service is friendly here, but be patient as the staff here speak very little English or any other foreign language.
The area surrounding the Regent Silom will keep tourist quite busy. There's Lumphini Park not too far away for a walk during the day and by night you can explore Suan Luam Night Bazaar and the sex district of Patpong nearby. There are plenty of great restaurants, international and Thai to satisfy plenty of appetites.
Overall for a budget hotel the Regent Silom in Bangkok is not a bad choice at all. There are plenty of sights to see and best of all the BTS Sky Train Sala Daeng Station is right outside and it'll take you to the rest of popular shopping malls and departments stores in Sukhumvit.

- Very small rooms with not much of a view. But adequate for the cheap price. The standard room I booked was clean but bathroom had a strange smell, otherwise everything was fine. Real big bonus is that it is close to red light district and train.

I-Residence Hotel in Bangkok
Rates starting from 1600THB
The I-residence is one of the newest hotels around Silom. I first stayed here when my company sent me to work in one of the offices just two blocks away from there. The area itself is quite quiet but it's close to Silom Road where it gets much more noisier and crowded. Getting to Patpong itself will take you about 15 minutes to walk it. If you're a single guy try a MotoTaxi bike which should cost around 20THB to 30THB. For a safer ride you can take the Sky Train at Chong Nongsi BTS station and get off the next stop at Sala Daeng BTS station at about the same cost.
The biggest plus about the location of I-Residence is that it's just steps away from Chong Nongsi BTS station. From there you can get to the rest of the popular places in Bangkok such as Siam Square, Siam Paragon, Central World Department Store as well as the other nightlife hot spots such as Nana Entertainment Plaza and Soi Cowboy.
Whenever I stay here I book a deluxe room and I find it very comfortable with a fair amount of adequate room amenities. Very clean place as a lot of professionals and international consultants who work at nearby offices stay and live here. The pool and fitness room are very nice and maintained which makes the value of this hotel excellent. So if you want to stay in a place where it's quiet but close to all the action I-Residence Hotel is a good choice for you.
For a great traditional Thai massage experience go to Health Land Spa. It's a big building with very nice facilities. Friendly English speaking front staff is available to answer your questions about all types of traditional massage services they offer. Be prepared to get bent and twisted in ways you can't even begin to imagine. But when it's over you're feel great. Health Land Spa is really close by, about a 10 minute walk. It's located on South Sathorn Road. You can follow the BTS tracks or just ask reception for better directions.

- I Residence is a good hotel but while I was staying there last week the hot water was on and off. Good sized rooms are a plus and hotels location is very good right by the BTS station. Yes it's near Patpong but it's still a bit of a walk, about 15 minutes which in the heat feels much longer. I would stay here again.

- Not a bad place to stay. Was here for 3 nights in late July on a business trip and must admit I was impressed with the quality in this price range. I stayed in a superior room on the 4th floor. Not much of a view but room is clean and nice but a bit small. If I come back I'll try the more expensive rooms.

Very close to BTS train. I wish hotel was closer to patpong. Still I will come back.

Bally's Studio Suite Silom in Bangkok Review
Rates starting at 1799THB
I'm a real big fan of this hotels location as well as the great areas to hang out around. There's so many great restaurants and watering holes to just eat and people watch. The Bally's Studio Silom is located on Silom Road, a major thoroughfare with a part of the BTS tracks running above and just a block away you have access to the MRT subway.
After staying in Bangkok for so long and eating traditional Thai food day in and day out sometimes it's good to just dig into a good old fashion burger. Lucky for me there's a Burger King directly downstairs and a McDonald's just yards away. Need your Starbucks fix? There's 2 of them just footsteps away.
Lumphini Park is just across the road and about 20 minutes away is Suan Luam Night Bazaar by foot. Check out their huge beer garden and food court with live music. There's just so much to do around this hotel's neighborhood it's great.
Want to explore Bangkok some more? No problem since the Silom MRT and Sala Daeng BTS stations is just minutes away from the door steps of this hotel. The BTS train system can take you to Siam Paragon, MBK, Central World as well as the other nightlife hot spots in Bangkok.
The rooms here are small, not claustrophobic small so don't worry. The suite rooms are a little bigger so you may want to upgrade. To me the standard rooms are comfortable enough. The furniture inside is new since this hotel is just a few years old. Because of the size of the hotel there's no pool and gym. But all in all it's a nice place to stay especially since the price is very affordable.

- A really good clean hotel. I enjoyed my stay a lot especially when I didn't have to pay extra to bring a bar girl to my room for short time or long time. They have a very good rooms. I didn't even mind the fact that the room didn't actually have a view. But it's better that way since I don't want people to see what goes on inside my room =D

- Bally's is the best budget hotel in Silom. For a single guy who travels often to Bangkok I've been to many hotels in the city and Bally's is clean and so close to Patpong red light district. The location is very busy all the time, night and day and there are so many foreign restaurants with english menus and pictures. Many massage parlors too!

- Very good hotel with clean and modern rooms. You don't have to walk too far to get anywhere. There are train stations just right out the door, many American fast food restaurants and coffee shops. Bally's is definitely near an international area but you'll find many Thai shops offering massages and intersting mix styles of foods.

Silom Serene Boutique Hotel in Bangkok
Rates starting from 2350THB
When I first stayed in Silom Serene back in 2004 I was paying $45 USD per night. To be honest I don't think it's worth the price, however because of the location and close proximity to Patpong and Sala Daeng BTS station it may still be worth it. Patpong is less then a 5 minute walk across Silom Road and the Sala Daeng BTS station is less than a 10 minute walk.
Don't get me wrong the rooms are comfortable and I've never had any serious problems, but there are very few room amenities. The free breakfast is fine, even though food selection is few, however they've got some great coffee. There is a small pool in the back, and I mean small with just two or three sunbeds available for guest.
So I guess what you're really paying for today is the privilege of the location. Which is okay especially because this part of Silom is near many great restaurants, pubs and some really good street food. You'll be paying a few THB more because of the area but no matter what it's still affordable.
If Thai food is not your cup of tea then you shouldn't worry as there are a large concentration of American fast food restaurants such as McDonald's and Burger King and some English style pubs with some great pub food.
Speaking about food and drink you should go check out Suan Lum Night Bazaar. It usually opens around 6pm and there is a huge outdoor market with some great international restaurants and bars. There's a steak house there but I don't remember the name at the moment. What I really want to mention is the huge food court / beer garden with live music in front of a huge stage. Sometimes they even have Soccer playing on a huge projection screen. Definitely worth checking out before some Condo Developer tears it down.

- Hey Hey, been following your reviews and this is my second time coming back for more. Silom Serene is a very nice little hotel and the location is unbeatable. It's just opposite famed and naughty Patpong go go bar district. The train stations are not far at all and it's a great place to enjoy Bangkok's nightlife. My only quip about Serene hotel is the pitiful little pool and hard pillows and bed.

- Very nice little hotel. Rooms have been updated now and really fresh after reading about it somewhere else. We booked 2 superior rooms and both were clean except the shower hot water was changing to cold sometimes. But that did not happen all the time. Beds are comfortable good for sleep.
Location is good with many restaurants around the area. Our family enjoyed a nice traditional chinese meal next door.

- I disagree, rooms here are not outdated. I just got back from there after booking here last week. My superior rooms was on the 4th floor and it look like it had been renovated recently. The bed is new as well as the lamps and desk and chairs. Maybe they're in the process of renovation. Whatever it is Silom Serene is a good place to enjoy downtown Bangkok. I highly recomend.

Patpong Nightlife and Night Market
The Siam Heritage Boutique Suites in Bangkok
Rates starting at 2120THB
The Siam Heritage Boutique Suites in Bangkok is like an oasis in the middle of the desert. Really, I'm not kidding as this hotel property is literally just a 3 minute walk away from the seedy go-go bars and jam packed Patpong Night Market. This area can get really crowded. But I still like it and I always recommend my friends to stay here for fun.
Don't worry, if you've never been to Bangkok's red light zones, it's quite safe with lots of police. You might even be quite surprised about how many foreign families and old folks are seen wandering around, taking curious peeks at hordes of bikini clad woman shuffling to hip hop beats.
Right in the middle of Patpong's go-go bars and clubs is the often packed Patpong Night Market. You can find many brand name counterfeit goods like clothing, bags, silver jewelery and watches. Stay away from the fake Rolex, honestly it's not worth the $30 USD, even if it's for $5 USD you shouldn't bother.
You can't tell from the outside of the Siam Heritage Boutique, but there are a wide assortments of room configurations from studios to two bedroom suites. However, the rooms are still quite small. I normally stay in the studio rooms and it is very clean and well maintained. It has a lot of decent amenities, the one I enjoy the most is the broadband Internet access.
The nearest train is Sala Daeng BTS Station about 5 to 10 minute walk. There is also a the Silom MRT Station in the same direction about 15 minute walk. Both of these trains gives you access to a large part of the main tourist stops such as Siam Paragon, Central World and the Emporium. It'll also get you to other nightlife hot spots such as Nana Entertainment Plaza and Soi Cowboy.

Narai Hotel in Bangkok
Rates starting at 1799THB
The Narai Hotel in Silom Bangkok was probably one of the classiest hotels back in the days but it has still retained its charm today. It's a rather big hotel in the busy streets of Silom and they are quite popular with tour groups from all over the world. This hotel does get busy and crowded and you'll see it in the grand lobby.
The location is not bad at all, the river is not too far away and you can use public boats to explore the old parts of Bangkok up north. The nearest train is at Chong Nongsi BTS Station, about 20 minutes walk eastwards. Patpong Sex District is a 25 minute walk east. You may just want to take a taxi rather then walk to those areas and it shouldn't cost more then 40 Baht depending on the traffic.
The area outside of the hotel is full of shops meant for Thai locals but further down west just a few blocks you'll find plenty of tourist tailored shops and restaurants. And if you want to visit the old parts of Bangkok up north such as the Grand Palace and Chinatown then I suggest taking the public boats by the river nearby.
The rooms here are quite good especially the superior rooms which were updated a few years ago with newer furniture and modern flat screen televisions. The standard rooms are fine though once one of my friends had to request a room change because of a foul odor in the bathroom. There is also a nice little pool available for guest use and a great to use during a really hot afternoon in Bangkok.

- Great hotel, it's a good idea to spend a bit extra for the deluxe rooms because they are newer and cleaner. At least from my experience. My brother booked 2 rooms from this website and we got better room rates. One was for deluxe and the other a superior. The deluxe on the 8 floor was a lot better with a modern style. The superior looked a bit dated but it was still clean.
The hotel is close to the ferry, Patpong and a bunch of massage places near the hotel. Very good location but I think traffic is very bad there in the weekends and at night.

- Good place to stay for enjoying the riverside of Bangkok. Choose the superior rooms they're much more modern with a nice flatscreen television. We're a family of 3 and are room was on the 17th floor with a nice view of the city. There's a tiny pool and it was often packed buy once the crowd is gone it's a nice respite during an often hot day in Bangkok.
Breakfast spread in the morning was delectable with many choices and variety. Narai hotel is a place I'll consider going back to next time.

Montien Hotel in Bangkok Review
Rates starting at 3400THB
This is a very attractive hotel rate because the Montien Hotel has good rooms, great service and most importantly a fantastic location. If you're in Bangkok to solely visit Patpong and its nightlife entertainment venues then this is the place for you. There is just so many bars, clubs and go-go bars around you that every night you won't be bored. All within just less then a block away.
And if you're into shopping then you'll also enjoy Patpong Night Market which is right in middle of the street between the bars and clubs. Lots of counterfeit goods can be bought here but you have to bargain as the prices are higher here. Stay away from the fake watches especially Rolex please. Your friends can tell it's not real.
If you want to venture further out it's no problem at all, you can easily reach the Sky Train at Sala Daeng BTS station by foot in about 5 to 10 minutes. The underground subway can be taken at Silom MRT station, also a 5 to 10 minute walk.
To be honest the rooms at the Montien Hotel in Bangkok are a little bit dated. But the hotel's management and housekeeping staff are top notch so the hotel is extremely well maintained. The hotel facilities are very good as well, some great restaurants (although I prefer to eat outside) a beautiful pool and nice fitness center. Overall I'm sure if you stay here a the Montien Hotel in Bangkok you'll have a great time.

- Thanks for recommendation Edwin, we took advantge of the promotion deal too and it's a great hotel. But I always had to cover my husbands eyes because there's a go go bar district across the street from the hotel. We definitely enjoyed our spa treatment here as well as the affordable non-naughty massage parlors around the corner. Also we had a great view of the city from our superior room on the 8 floor.

- We booked 2 superior rooms here at Montien and liked it. Clean and spacious rooms with huge balcony to enjoy city view. Very nice pool and variety of buffet choices for breakfast. Location is really good too next to train stations and shopping.

- I wouldn't put this as a luxury hotel but it is close. Service is definitely superb but my room was a bit dated, however clean it was. Breakfast in the morning was passable but my kids seemed to enjoy it more so maybe it's just me. I really did like the swimming pool though and it came in handy during a sweltering afternoon. There's a sex district right outside of Montien but you can feel safe because there are many other families wandering around and gawking at dancing ladies. I would come back to Montien if they lowered the room rates more.

- Um, you can't barter in Patpong sorry. I tried offering the guys there a big sack of rice and a teapot in exchange for a T-Shirt and they just looked at me funny and said "Cash only!". So yeah, bartering is a no-no. *Bargaining* however is expected...
