20 Years in the Banquet Business and Going...

I've been organizing and planning Banquets for various occasions around the Greater Houston Metropolitan area for over 20 years. I've finally hired more staff so I can spend more time on other things, such as making a website about my passion.
I plan to use this site to tell the world more about and to guide everyone through the various aspects of banquet planning including the picking of a theme, renting the banquet furniture, and setting it up properly. I also want to write about the decorating of an entire hall from chair covers to ceiling decorations to dress up the whole facility and bring all the elements together into a uniform theme. This might sound easy in one sentence but do not underestimate the organization or planning of a banquet night no matter the occasion.
But no worries, I'm here to help!

Tying a Banquet Together With a Centralized Theme

A banquet is something that has a purpose behind it's occurring. Regardless of whether you're planning a reception, school formal, company event, anniversary or retirement party, you are sculpting a unique evening for a unique purpose. Since you wish that your party will be successful and that your guests will really enjoy themselves, uniting everything with a theme is ideal for using your decor and presentations to help achieve this.

Even if you have some limitations because of the nature of the event, there is a lot of creativity you can put into the theme of the evening. If you are looking for a theme or mood for a particular evening that you are entertaining use the seasons as your guide. A December feast connotes a winter or Christmas motif, on the other hand early summer would have you think of an image and decor of vacation or beach.

It's a good idea to put together a committee of people to brainstorm an appropriate theme for the banquet. If it's a celebration such as a prom or a seasonal party, you have a lot of leverage for a banquet theme. But even in the case of a wedding reception or a company annual Christmas party where you have the purpose of the banquet to keep in mind, you can create a theme around a color scheme or something related to the event that can inspire a lot of creative ideas in your committee.

Brainstorming in a committee has its advantage, that is, you benefit from the different talents of the group. You have the practical minded people on the team who know what you can and cannot get away with thematically and what you can and cannot afford from a budget perspective. If the committee's creative members are asked to come up with themes and ideas to make a memorable banquet, you can eventually decide on a theme that's exciting and at the same time, realistic.

You can put everyone to work on a specific task to concentrate on once you've decided to come to terms on a banquet theme concept, this will help everyone focus. The music, the banquet chairs, the speakers, the entertainment, the decorations and even the lighting so it all comes together beautifully once you have your theme in mind and convey that theme to the subcommittees. And if each person performs their task well, you will have a wonderful dinner that is sure to be remembered for my years to come by everyone who was there.

    Having a friend that has recently gone through all the work of planning and executing a banquet I can say that this lens has a ton of useful information. I really liked your ideas about the banquet theme.

    This lens is just what I need to find for my banquet I have to prepare for a party that is coming up. Having to figure out everything is sometimes very hard to organize and manage.
