Acceptance into the eBay Partner Network can be either relatively immediate or could take some time. I found that my approval took about 2 minutes. The BANS instructions are clear in the updated manuals and the eBay Partner Network "Getting Started" video is helpful for navigating around the new eBay Dashboard.

With the advent of the new eBay Partner Network and easy eBay affiliate integration through BANS, there is no better time to leverage such a great tool.

BANS is my business. I am committed to creating and marketing niches as my main form of Internet Marketing monetization. I was formerly a "Wealthy Affiliate" Member and ran across Kelvin (one of the Build a Niche Store Co-creators) on the WA forum who offered me food for thought:

"I've read that you are now treating BANS as a business and I think this is a great path to take if you commit to it and learn as you go. I sincerely believe there's room to create a 5-figure monthly business from the BANS-eBay combination and it would be great to see you striving towards that figure in the coming year."

How inspiring is that?!!!! :-)

The more niches I can create, the better off I am. I find commissions or eBay registrations can come from some of the most unexpected BANS stores I have built. Sometimes the market does not react the way I would have expected (a niche I thought would have performed well under-performs and another over-performs unexpectedly). You just never know. Like a stock portfolio -- diversifying is good.



Every week, I can examine my current niches, spend time studying the eBay Pulse and discover a different or new niche I had not thought of exploring before. Perhaps I can discover a way to put a new spin on a niche. I like to think about how I can get creative and make my niches extensible -- in other words, discover how each will translate into my retail affiliations and or branch into new niches. I feel that my niches continue to get better and better with time and each new BANS update. So far I have experienced two updates.

I always try to spend time with other BANS users in the BANS Forum. This is an unseen but an extremely valuable reason for owning this software. There are other BANS-types of scripts out there -- but I believe that they lack the community and support that Kelvin and Adam have built into the product.

The BUILD A NICHE STORE Member Area is extremely rich with resources to get moving. Put work into it, get money out. A not so novel and very do-able concept. It really does happen. I'm proof of it.

In reality, for a one-time expenditure of $97 I was able to start a new business (a new arm of my affiliate marketing) and reach out to a brand new clientèle. I was able to immediately enter the ranks of other BANS store owners and share experiences and best-practices. The learning from the forum itself has more than paid for the cost of the software.

Learning about successes and new milestones is very encouraging to me as I learn about new BANS integration and promotion.

I have learned that I can take the business as far as I want to. Running BANS IS a business. Make it what you want.

Lessons Learned over the Past Year 

I bought BANS in May 2007

I've been creating BANS since version 1.2 (and am now converting my stores to V. 3.0epn). I've learned a lot over the past year and a half by watching my web logs and statistics and viewing keywords from my customers. I've learned a lot from the BANS Member Area as well. The resources are plentiful there.

What I have learned may sound very logical or common sense -- but I want to share it because I think it is important to vocalize. Keep in mind, I spend NO MONEY at this point advertising my BANS sites. Just time getting them out onto the web.

1) I've learned some of the niches I thought were going to be the most popular ... aren't.

2) I've learned that content on a BANS niche is important. Something to set it apart.

3) Quality over Quantity. I am able to post A LOT OF BANS niches. But I am discovering that this MIGHT not be the best way to go.

4) I've learned to listen to my visitors and pay attention to their keyword searches.

5) I've learned that in my experience, the eBay sales by themselves (in my niches) can be plentiful but small. I earn a LOT of my money from other affiliate programs and retail products offered on my BANS sites.

I've picked a lot of BANS niches that sell "small potato" stuff like beauty products, Avon or crafts items. The commissions on these items can be well under $1.00 per sale.

Yes, you read it right.

When you create Niches you need to keep eBay's ever-changing commissions in mind. Think about that carefully -- it will play into your bottom line.

So, still, after almost a year of doing BANS I am earning $1400.00 per month across all of my Niches. This number continues to grow monthly.

This number would grow exponentially, I am sure, if I spent a lot more time on my Niches & if I used PPC campaigns. But I don't. They are moving on autodrive for the most part at this point although I do continue to analyze and see what I can do better. I also keep my eyes open for more niches and may be ditching some other niches that are under-performing or are more difficult to maintain.

My BANS and EPN relationship has been very productive and is growing. My EPN earnings for the full month of June is $1351.88. These earnings are from EBAY ALONE and not including other affiliate earnings using CJ.com or any other affiliate opportunity.

I am confident that my earnings will continue to grow as I continue to discover the formula.

BANS, Ebay Partner Network and the PepperJam Network

What's this all about? Here's the latest from Kelvin and Adam ... yet another way to earn eBay commissions through another Affiliate Network called The PepperJam Network.



"As you will probably know eBay recently partnered with Pepperjam
which allows affiliates to market eBay listed products through the
Pepperjam network rather than the EPN platform.

From eBay's perspective the principal reason for doing this is to
extend their reach into the affiliate marketing community.
Pepperjam is a large network with "X" amount of affiliate marketers
and this partnership will bring a percentage of Pepperjam
publishers who were not previously eBay affiliates into the eBay
affiliate program(s)...the EPN platform itself is going nowhere.

From your perspective as a BANS user it opens the possibility of
running your BANS stores through the Pepperjam network rather than
EPN and a number of users have expressed an interest in having this
option.

Consequently, we have been in communication with Pepperjam over
this past week and a half discussing the different options for
linking BANS up with Pepperjam and a projected timescale for doing
this.

They have been working to bring the eBay RSS feed (which BANS
requires) into their platform this past week and have also been
discussing with eBay the option and timescale over which they can
extend their support of the eBay affiliate programs from just the
US (currently) to all the eBay affiliate programs so that they can
support all BANS countries and users.

There was a debate as to whether we would go ahead with BANS US to
start with and then add support for the additional countries once
Pepperjam had brought them inside their network or whether we would
wait until all the countries were supported and release a complete
version of BANS Pepperjam to compliment BANS EPN.

It has now been decided that BANS and Pepperjam will partner over
the following 2 stages.

1. A BANS V3.0 Pepperjam for US store builders will be released
along with an update pack for existing V3.0 US stores if you would
like to convert then from EPN to Pepperjam.

2. Once Pepperjam has extended their support from just the eBay.com
(US) affiliate program to include all of the eBay affiliate
programs we will release a complete (ie all countries) Pepperjam
version of BANS V3.0 to sit alongside BANS V3.0 EPN and it will be
up to you to decide which network you use.

We've spoken with Kris from Pepperjam this morning and stage 1
should happen sometime this week.

My thoughts are a little mixed. I DID sign up with the PJN and I did register for eBay on PJN. I personally am seeing great tracking and earnings through the Ebay Partner Network (EPN). I am not sure that I feel the need to add PJN to my repetoire ... but it might provide for good split-testing. I'm still thinking about it.

One of my top earning sites is one called "Guitar Gateway" that deals with guitar, percussion and pro-audio auctions on eBay.

The one question I have received from people who might not fully understand what BANS is is why does a person have to use YOUR site, can't they just navigate straight through eBay to find what they need? This is a legitimate question! The work on our side then becomes, how can we differentiate our site from others and add value to the user experience.

I add value by continually adding fresh retail content by using the BANS option for Content Pages. I partner with music retailers through affiliate networks like Commission Junction, Performics and Linkshare and focus in on guitar brands that are some of the most desirable. I use tools such as Google Analytics to hone in and see what people are looking for. This method can be utilized across all my BANS sites.

What kind of options do you have if you DON'T have a website of your own but you want to sell eBay products?

1. You could ask a buddy who owns a website if you can add your eBay affiliate links to it.


2. You can get a domain name and hosting of your own and install eBay editor kits and banners all around (this assumes you have other appealing content to build your website on).


3. You can get a domain name and hosting of your own and use an all-in-one type of solution like BANS to launch an eBay affiliate store of your own.

#3 is where this Squidoo lens is moving (because I believe it is one of the best options for building an eBay affiliate business -- and I am excited as I build my own niches). It is relatively easy to do and there is a great support forum and help ticketing system that comes with the software.

That's where the Build a Niche Store comes in handy. If you have a domain name, web hosting space and a favorite "thing' in mind that you want to sell. How do I promote my Niche Stores??? 

I have been asked a LOT about this lately. I don't have tons of traffic, but I have targeted traffic and they like to buy things (hooray). Look at my niches and you will see that they run a little differently than some of the others that may exist out there. I add value with retail links too. Not on all of my niches, but on the most successful ones.

How do I promote them?

Web 2.0, Baby!

I've used very little PPC and find that there are a few rules of thumb:

1) Use a tool like SocialPoster.com (this takes time but it is free).

2) Stumble, DIGG, Facebook and of course SQUIDOO. They are all the best venues.

3) Research directories in your Niche and see if you can add your link to them.

4) Consider joining some web rings.

These are a few of my tricks. I earn about 500-700 per month off my BANS above. If I was a little more aggressive, I could earn more.

It's growing and I am not spending. That's the key for me.

How do you customize your niches? 

I customize my BANS niches by creating a color palette and implementing that color palette into the CSS file that is provided. I create a palette that I feel will best express that niche (or one that expresses my mood in that moment). I also create header images using Photoshop based on that same palette and implement royalty-free images from Fotolia.
