Celebrating The Baptism
Most, but not all Christian denominations celebrate the religious ceremony of Baptism.
The Baptizing of an infant or adult plays an important part in Christian religions as it symbolizes the acceptance into the Church and for many it also signifies purity and cleansing.
Although each of the ceremonies or sacraments may differ from one another they all are considered a joyous occasion and often a large celebration takes place after the Baptism.
Many photos are taken at the Baptism along with many at the parties afterward and most infants are dressed in a Baptism outfit or gown which is often passed down from on generation to another.

What is a Godparent?
When an infant or child is Baptized their parents choose a Godparent for them.In the case of an adult being Baptized as in the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA), the person who is being Baptized chooses their own Godparents.
But what is the role of a Godparent?
The role of the Godparents is to represent Christian community and also the Church.
The Godparents are there to help the parents raise the child according to the Church's doctrines.
In the case of an adult Baptism, the Godparents will help the adult continue on their goals of leading a good and wholesome life and help the adult continue in their quest for knowledge of the Church.
Remember that when choosing Godparents you should choose those who share your beliefs and will continue to help shape the religious and spiritual life of the person Baptized.
Just because someone is your best friend or relative does not make this person the best choice to be a Godparent. Take into consideration their beliefs as they will be a role model for the Baptized.

- That's true what you about the godparents being there to help the child grow spiritually. Nowadays some people don't really think about the seriousness of choosing a godparent, and I think the child could miss out. Thanks for raising this important point!
