One Possibility For An Obama Presidency

Barack Obama will be the most progressive President ever

Barack Obama will be the most progressive President in American history. First of all, it's from necessity. After the disasters of George W. Bush, the United States needs a rapid pace of progressive action just to make it back to where we were eight years ago. More than that, Barack Obama will work to bring peace, restore the liberty guaranteed by the Constitution, and fight against global warming. With this mighty range of tasks at hand, it's the new voice and coalition of energized progressive youth who support him that are uniquely able to make America work again.

Barack Obama will be the most progressive President in American history if only because previous Presidents have been so downright antiprogressive

No way, Monkeybrain!

matt says:

Barack Obama is a terrible president. Worse than bush. Bush wasn't even that bad, Obama is destroying this country. He calls it democracy i call it socialism. Obviously big government isn't the answer. Jimmy Carter destroyed this country and it took a republican to fix it. The democratic congress and obama are destroying this country, and it will take a republican to fix it.

says:

Yeah you moron, time for a Christian Country to go Socialist? Thats a big change, how about if Obama gets removed by some stupid racist kkk member, then we will end up with Biden as president...That doesnt worry you? Wake up, Big Government IS nOT in Your Best Interest. It didnt work in Russia, Its not working in China and The fact that OBAMA is a muslim, means that the next stop on the "TOLERANCE TOUR" is the enactment of Sharia Law in the US ! That will really ruin your optimistic outlook wouldnt it. The dissolution of the constitution and the US joining with the EU as a major player! SO you think our freedoms are still intact? wait until the religious persecution starts a race war under Obamas rule. Since he wants to pull out of all muslim countries, and STOP the fight against Radical ISlam, just wait until the AlQuedas of the world regroup against us in retaliation for Iraq. The twin towers destruction was only a start, OBAMA is a SCARY CHOICE, Im not voting for that MORON!

Simple nonsense. Barack Obama, and the Democratic Party in general, are right-wing conservatives. This is to be expected, as the overwhelming majority of American voters are right-wing conservatives -- some 99% according to the election results (only about 1% vote outside the Republicrat duopoly).

The division of left-right is determined by one's stance in regard to socialism versus capitalism. There is essentially zero dissent among US politicians on the capitalist mantra, thus they are all right-of-center, including both Obama and McCain.

The division of progressive-conservative is determined by one's stance regarding social issues; are you for progress by further broadening and deepening inclusive democracy, or not. One example of this would be equal rights for LGBT people -- which Obama and McCain both oppose.

Both Obama and McCain are right-wing conservatives. Obama is to the left of McCain, but still right-of-center; and Obama is less conservative than McCain, but still conservative -- Obama just wants to preserve a less primitive era (this one), while McCain actually wants to regress.

While Obama is certainly the lesser evil in this election, he is far from progressive. Still, as an avowed progressive myself, I heartily endorse him over McCain. In safely blue states, however, I'd endorse a true progressive candidate (e.g., McKinney or Nader), to send a message to the Democrats that they better stop their centrist behavior.
