Barbara is a Canadian author of several illustrated novels whose style is similar to Nick Bantock (author of the Griffin and Sabine series). Her books are published by Raintree Press.
The pages are full of fascinating travel ephemera which alone can hold your attention, but the text is more than compelling enough to stand on its own.
