Barbie's Fictional Story

Barbie's full name is Barbara Millicent Roberts. In a series of novels published by Random House in the 1960s, her parents' names are given as George and Margaret Roberts from the fictional town of Willows, Wisconsin. In the Random House novels, Barbie attended Willows High School, while in the Generation Girl books, published by Golden Books in 1999, she attended the fictional Manhattan International High School in New York City (based on the real-life Stuyvesant High School).
She has an on-off romantic relationship with her boyfriend Ken (Ken Carson), who first appeared in 1961. A news release from Mattel in February 2004 announced that Barbie and Ken had decided to split up,but in February 2006 they were hoping to rekindle their relationship after Ken had a makeover.

Barbie has had over 40 pets including cats and dogs, horses, a panda, a lion cub, and a zebra. She has owned a wide range of vehicles, including pink Corvette convertibles, trailers, and jeeps. She also holds a pilot's license, and operates commercial airliners in addition to serving as a flight attendant. Barbie's careers are designed to show that women can take on a variety of roles in life, and the doll has been sold with a wide range of titles including Miss Astronaut Barbie (1965), Doctor Barbie (1988) and Nascar Barbie (1998).
Mattel has created a range of companions for Barbie, including Hispanic Teresa, Midge, African American Christie, and Steven (Christie's boyfriend). Barbie's siblings and cousins were also created including Skipper, Todd (Stacie's twin brother), Stacie (Todd's twin sister), Kelly, Krissy, and Francie. Barbie was friendly with Blaine, an Australian surfer, during her split with Ken in 2004

My favorite thing to do as a little girl was playing with Barbie Dolls. Changing her clothes was constant. I only had two. Then Ken came along (Who I called Tony Curtis, first love of my life). Ken was not as much fun, only one outfit! Skipper came along and I was so excited to get Skipper, her look was different and she had freckles, like my good friend Lisa.
Of course when I was blessed with two daughters in a row, one of the first things I thought about was buying them a Barbie doll. Years later when we built a room for our girls, we dedicated a closet for Barbie and her plethora of friends, little sister's and brother's and of course Ken. This closet was necessary for all the Barbie stuff we collected. Houses with lights and cars that ran on batteries! I literally loved that closet and playing on the floor with my girls. There was a new friend, cousin or family member for Barbie every time I hit the store, not to mention the accessories and new gizmos that they just "had" to have. Thought I would share my favorites and then some with you.

Not much is mentioned anywhere about Barbie's 1st girlfriend. After much discussion with friends who remember Barbie in her early years, not one of my friends could remember her name. I recall wanting her so badly, I believe she was around before Ken. Finally, we Googled it. I knew it was a name that wasn't "cutesy". My Google Search proved me right. Her 1st Friend was "Midge". She disappeared all too quickly, I think she should have been manufactured/ recreated over the years, with interest's of her own. How many articles or poems have we read over the years about how important our girlfriends are. Fortunately, for all the girls who love to collect and play with Barbie and Friends, Mattel has created great dolls as her "sister" or "younger friend". She is the Star that lives on for the little girls still to come.
