Barbie Basics Black Label Collection for Adult Barbie Collectors

Barbie Basics is a major ine of collector's edition Barbie dolls launched by Mattel in 2010. Created by Mattel designer Bill Greening, this collection is under the Black Label which targets adult collectors.

As its name suggests, Barbie Basic is about staple fashion. All the dolls under this series are dressed in the "basic" clothing that women usually have in their wardrobe. With additional accessory packs available for sale, collectors can have fun spicing up the dolls' looks and create their very own personalized Barbie dolls. In another word, Barbie Basics is also about the permission to play.

Barbie Basics Collection 001

Interview With Mattel Designer Bill Greening

Barbie Basics Collection 001 is the very first line of dolls under the series. Debuted in spring 2010, Collection 001 features 12 Barbie dolls dressed in classic little black dress and 4 accessory packs. For a Barbie collector edition, this is a relatively affordable collection.

Each of the 12 dolls has a unique face sculpt that are popular in the Barbie Collector. Unlike the usual Barbie dolls, they have no names but are identified by numbers. As models, they have ModelMuse bodies which are skinner than normal Barbie dolls and every one of them strikes a different stance and arm pose. The downside is Barbie Basics dolls have immovable limbs, so their poses are pretty much fixed.

Here's an introduction of the Collection 001 by Barbie Basics designer Bill Greening.
