Having a deaf family member makes me notice things made to meet their needs

The Barbie Sign Language Doll, or sometimes called the Barbie ASL (American Sign Language) Doll, caught my eye because I have a brother who is deaf and disabled, so gift ideas like this interest me.

This doll is not readily available in stores, but you will find some available below unless otherwise indicated.

About the Sign Language Barbie Doll

This doll was released in 1999 and available in stores in 2000, so you see, finding it on this page is a treat, as it is not readily available in stores.

One source said it was designed with the help of the National Center on Deafness.

The doll comes with Barbie's hand in the ASL (American Sign Language) "I Love You" symbol.

It comes with a "cling on" board with a clock that has movable hands, and pictures that include the sign for that picture. There is a complete ASL alphabet on the back of the box. You can read more about American Sign Language (ASL) below.

This Barbie can be used with all the usual cloths and accessories available for any other Barbie Doll.

    I've studied ASL in the past because I used to watch a lady in church translate the praise and worship songs and it was so beautiful. I had no idea there was a deaf Barbie. I'm thinking a hearing child would love to have this doll so she could start to learn ASL!
