B arbie has captured the hearts of millions, young and old alike. As a matter of fact, Mattel, the company behind Barbie dolls, estimates that there are over 100,000 people who are keeping Barbie collectibles. Add to that the fact that almost half of these Barbie collectors spend more than $1000 a year for Barbie collectibles. That sounds overwhelming to know that someone would spend that much for a doll. However, Barbie collectibles are valuable, especially those that were made in the early years, or the vintage Barbie collectibles.

Barbie was first introduced on the market on March 9, 1959 at the American International Toy Fair. Produced by Mattel, Inc, Barbie is named after the daughter of Ruth Handler, co-founder of Mattel, who's daughter's name is Barbara. The first Barbie collectible had a black and white zebra striped swimsuit with a signature topknot ponytail. Nowadays, there are a wide range of Barbie collectibles. Different series of Barbie collectibles are produced, such as a range of television characters, celebrities, different ethnic identities and many more. So far, over a billion Barbie collectibles have been sold around the world, with three Barbie dolls sold every second, as claimed by Mattel.
