Barbie turns 50 this year!

Happy Birthday Barbie! Looking Good!
Back in March 1959 Ruth Handler created the Barbie doll to replace the flimsy paper dolls that little girls played with.
I remember getting my first Barbie doll when I was 5 years old! It was so exciting. I added Midge, Skipper and Tootie to my collection and when the "Twist and Turn" Barbie came I along I had to have one!
I had so much fun with my dolls, dressing them, making clothes for them, I played with them up until my first teen year. Then they sat on their Barbie Bed in my room until I grew up and packed them away in my cedar chest, where they still reside today. Perhaps I should get them out and say "Hi"!

Barbie's Year Long 50th Birthday Celebration

All Kinds of "Pink-Carpet" Events for our Favorite Doll

On Feb. 14, 50 designers will come together to show their Barbie-inspired designs on life-sized models at a runway show.
Interior designer Jonathan Adler is transforming a Malibu, California beach pad into a real life Barbie's Malibu Dream House for her March 9 birthday party, the color scheme will be pink of course.
A Bloomie's boutique will showcase Barbie-branded fashion, accessories and, of course, dolls, from Feb. 11 to March 15.
Cosmetics company Stila will be Barbie's makeup partner for 2009.
"Barbie Loves Bloomingdale's NYC" will have 120 vintage Barbies in an in-store display.

There will also be events all around the Globe honoring Barbie.

    I knew Barbie had been around for quite awhile, but didn't realize it was 50 years. I loved dressing Barbie in different costumes and of course loved my Barbie house as a girl.
