What makes a Friesian a Star?
So, what's that mean?
Baron (Berend) made Star (ster) status in 2003, putting him in the top 25% of his breed.
Only 6 other stallions made Star status that year in the entire USA!
MORE ABOUT THIS
What does Star/Ster Status mean, anyway?
An inspection known as a "keuring" (Dutch term) is an exciting and nerve-wracking judging event. Horses are exhibited individually, meticulously examined and reviewed against the standard of perfection. Ratings focus mainly on conformation and movement.
"Ster" (pronounced star) is a classification that may be awarded at a keuring, to horses that are 3 years old or older. Mares, stallions or geldings may be rated ster status, but only the most exceptional animals are given this honor.

The Wiki on Friesian Horses
The Friesian (also Frisian) horse is a breed of horse from Friesland, a province of the Netherlands. Although the breed's conformation resembles that of a light draft horse, Friesians are graceful and nimble for their size. During the Middle Ages, the ancestors of Friesian horses were in great demand as war horses throughout continental Europe. Through the Early Middle Ages and High Middle Ages, their size enabled them to carry a knight in armor. In the Late Middle Ages, heavier, draft type animals were needed. Though the breed nearly became extinct on more than one occasion, the modern da...

more than just a pretty face
Baron always tries his best.
We were so honored when Baron was selected to be the mount for Chief Riding Instructor: Ritmeester Robert van den Berg, (MRg) (KCE) Royal Netherlands Army, during the 2006 Dutch Days Festival in Holland, Michigan.
Baron was ridden by Robert (he rides for the Queen!) in the Governors Parade, where they were inspected by Gov. Granholm.
They also did the big parade as well as a ceremony for a fallen soldier followed by the induction of the newest member of the Blue Devils Horse Platoon.
Baron and Robert started out by getting to know each other in a beach training exercise, where Baron led a group of Friesian mares through gunfire and smoke bombs.
Baron did all this with only 60 days under saddle! He is an impressive horse.
He really is a horse of the people.
Baron is also a bit of a celebrity, complete with a fan club of children that love to visit him. His kind loving nature endears him to people of all ages.
Baron is an approved Bronze Status Stallion with Friesians of America.

BLACK
is the standard Friesian color, although some may fade or bleach out in the summer to appear bay or brown.
Black foals are born a smoky gray or mousy gray-brown, and their sleek jet black coat comes in at around 4-5 months.

KFPS Friesian Stallion Tsjerk 328
Tsjerk 328 (Feitse 293 x Nanne, stam 38) is a living legend. In 2007 he already had sired four approved sons (Maiko 373, Andries 415, Hinne 427 and Loadewyk 431). Also as of that year he had sired 255 star mares, resulting in a phenominal 53.6% lifetime star rating. In this clip from the 2007 stallion show he is 17 years old and still going strong. Tsjerk is the damsire of our ster broodmare Dahlia (see her video by looking at my video list).
