A Selection of the Three Famous Works of the Baroque Music period
Baroque music describes a style of European classical music approximately extending from 1600 to 1750. Many people associate composers such as Johann Sebastian Bach, Georg Frideric Handel and Antonio Vivaldi with it.
A lot of things happenend at that time which are still essential for the music of today:
It was the time when combined instrumental and vocal forms like the oratoria and the cantata were developed; the concerto emerged with soloists and orchestra playing together.Music developed to the modern Western tonality we know today with its major and minor scales). The opera was established as a musical genre.
The invention of the printed press made it possible to exchange music from one musical center to the other; at the same time it was much easier for composers to have their sheets printed and distributed to the musicians who had to play it exactly as it had been written down.
The three selected pieces are between 7 and almost ten minutes long. They are full of life and joy. So even if you are not into music history you can just sit back and let your mood be lifted up!
Johann Sebastian Bach
The supreme composer of the Baroque
In his time he was a highly respected organist. But only after the second half of the 19th century he was widely recognised as a composer. Now he is regarded as the supreme composer of the Baroque.

George Frideric Handel
The cosmopolitan baroque composer
In these times moving from one town to the other was arduous. You either had to walk or take the stagecoach. So most of the people stayed where they were.
Moving from one country to the other like Handel did is something quite extraordinary. He had to learn foreign languages and adopt to other styles of living.

- Hmm, hard choice! Bach's amazing organ pieces have such power, but Handel's oratorios fill my soul, and Vivaldi's four seasons are so vivid and creative!
