Basara: Enabling Muslim Non-Profits

These are the first public words about us.

Still an idea in germination, Basara Consultants is a non-profit for non-profits. It is inspired by and designed around the teething problems of new American Muslim organizations. (Basara means vision or insight in Arabic.)

The American Muslim community is a young and diverse but traditionally disenfranchished and underresourced community.  A "second generation" of Muslim institutions that extend beyond mosque and school is just beginning to emerge: community-based businesses, learning networks, new media, youth and advocacy groups. As these organizations explore new technologies and new models of leadership, they will need the professional skills that are traditionally available in for-profit sectors. This is where Basara Consultants, a group of young Muslim professionals with for-profit skills and experience, comes in. 

As a brand new organization, we are still trying to refine our vision, identify our core competencies and identify the best strategies to reach clients.  The good news is that our founding members bring experience from a variety of relevant sectors (strategy, branding, design, financial services, corporate responsibility and social development), bring a number of client relationships on board and are well positioned within American Muslim social and professional networks.

Basara Consultants is a non-sectarian organization: we have no religious affiliations and hold no opinions or positions on religious issues.  While we understand the Muslim community best, we are happy to work with people and organizations of a variety of faith and non-faith backgrounds.
