Baseball Really Is America’s Favorite Pass-Time

Ranked #10,471 in Sports & Recreation, #252,606 overall

For over 100 years, baseball has been one of America's favorite activities to participate in and watch. This summer, get a group of friends together to play or find a local ballpark to watch some games.

Baseball Really Is America's Favorite Pass-Time

Baseball: the American pass-time. This sport has created a persona of America that people all around the world recognize as a true American activity. The greatest thing about baseball in America is that people of all ages play this sport. A lot of parents end up sticking their children in clubs when they are knee-high to a grasshopper, starting their children off with a love for the sport from their early ages. As the children grow older, they often times try out of their middle school and high school teams and end up making other friends that share their love for the activity. If the high-schooler is a good enough at the sport, he or she might get picked for a college team and end up getting scholarships at the college just for playing the sport for them. From there comes the big leagues. If that college player shines enough, he or she might get drafted to professional baseball teams all across the country. That's when you know you've hit it big.

Training to become a good baseball player takes a lot of work and a lot more dedication. Although professional players make it look like hitting a 90 mph fast ball is as easy as pie, it truly is not. Hardly any person can become a professional player without extensive baseball tips and conditioning.

The best way to train for baseball is to get on some sort of a team or club that plays baseball often. Even if you are too old for college teams, that doesn't mean you can't still get into a team and get good at playing. There are a lot of teams of older people that enjoy playing baseball as a pass-time and just enjoy the sport for the sport itself and not for the competition. If there isn't already a group of people in your neighborhood who gets together to play, make your own group and start telling other people about it. Since it is America's favorite pass-time, there are bound to be others around you who are looking for a group to play with as well. Even if you aren't looking for something competitive, you can always have fun throwing around and hitting a ball. If worst comes to worst, get your family go play with you. They'll do it even if they don't really want to. Make it your family activity for one of your family nights.

Even if you aren't looking to play baseball, but you really just want to watch a game or two, check out your local baseball teams. Summer is the perfect season for outdoor baseball because the weather is nice and hot dogs just taste better. Most cities have local baseball teams and the games cost next to nothing. You can take your whole family to a Sunday game for little money as long as you stay away from the concessions. Once you realize that the concessions are there, it's all over. Nothing tastes better than some popcorn and peanuts in a ballpark. So this summer, either get a group together to play baseball, or go out to your local ballpark and start enjoying America's favorite pass-time.
