Basic Care for Your Acne
Acne is a problem that causes a great deal of discomfort and even embarrassment for its sufferers. It doesn't help that most of us have dealt with acne lesions at one point or another in our lives. But it's important to realize that acne is treatable and will respond well to some habits that simply involve proper skin and health care. Hormonal fluctuations, and the stress of our daily lives can aggravate acne, and unfortunately there may be little we can do about that. But we can still find ways to battle acne lesions. Here are some important things you can do to help yourself. You will begin to see results in about 4 weeks.Use a honey mask - Honey has wonderful antibacterial properties and is great for disinfecting and healing of minor acne lesions. To make your honey mask more effective, apply a warm, wet washcloth to your face for a few minutes to help open pores. Then apply honey to your face and let it sit for 15 - 20 minutes. Rinse with warm water, and then follow with cool water to help close pours. Use a honey mask up to twice a week.
Wash twice a day with a soap made especially for acne - Acne doesn't occur because of dirt, but dirt and oil build up on your skin can aggravate acne. Wash in the morning and again at night. Be gentle because scrubbing will only stimulate your sebaceous glands, and increase the occurrence of acne lesions.
Take a good vitamin supplement - Choose a good multi-vitamin to help your body heal itself and keep itself healthy.
Take a chromium supplement and a zinc supplement - Both chromium and zinc are effective in helping your body fight infections and heal acne lesions quickly.
Avoid wearing makeup, or wear makeup that is water-based - Make up will clog pores and aggravate your acne, but if you must wear it, use water based, not oil based make-up.
Drink lots of water - No, water won't cure acne, as some have claimed. But water is essential to all around good health and in helping your body cleanse itself from toxins that may cause acne lesions.
Don't pick at or squeeze blackheads and pimples - This damages your skin, may make scarring worse and actually causes the skin to produce more sebum.
Keep your pillowcase clean - Wash your pillowcase every few days to remove the oils and dirt it has absorbed from your face. Otherwise, there is the risk of that oil and dirt ending back on your face when you sleep.
Will these steps end the occurrence of acne lesions? No, but they are good common-sense steps that will definitely help lesson the frequency, severity and duration of acne lesions.
