Basketball: Fast Break Offense

It can help everyone from players to fans to learn a little bit more about fast breaks.

3 things you should know about basketball offense

In the game of basketball, there are only two types of offenses; half court and fast break. Half court basketball is where the team runs a set scheme of plays designed to get the ball to the open man by running various picks and routes. Fast break basketball on the other hand, is where a member of the team steals the ball, or has some other break on the defense so they can get down the court and score without interference from the other team.

Below are some key factors that go into fast break basketball, along with tips on how to increase your skill.

Rebounds, Steals, Blocks

As a player, you should always look for a fast break situation following one of these very common defensive breaks. If you are constantly aware of your surroundings, you will be able to spot the opportunity for a fast break when your defense makes a sudden play on the ball.

Inbound Passes

One of the most fun college basketball teams to watch is UAB. If you get a chance to see them, pay attention to how they handle in bounding the ball after the other team makes a basket. Immediately after the ball goes through the net, they have a player grab the ball and pass it inbounds. This is a very affective way to keep the other team off balance. If your team is better conditioned to the rigors of fast break basketball, you will have the upper hand in this situation.

Passing

When passing under this scheme it is important to pass the ball down the court. Your objective is to move the ball as quickly as possible. To do this, you must constantly pass to the open player that is farthest ahead. This moves the ball at quick tempo, giving your team in better position to make the play.

These examples of fast break basketball will help you increase the effectiveness of your team. The main key in being successful is to always be looking for an opportunity to beat the defense. Stay focused and your opponent will soon succumb to your threat.

Winning

Following these strategies, you will improve your game and your team will start winning more often. Don't let the success go to your head and enjoy the basketball trophies.
