Basketball Speed And Agility Drills

Ranked #39,819 in Sports & Recreation, #899,877 overall

As a Personal Trainer I have worked with people wanting to improve their Basketball game. When I ask them to show me what they usually do for their training drills what I find is that their main focus seems to be on jump skills and shooting hoops. This is all good, but if they're lacking the necessary speed and agility drills they will never be the best they can be. It is imperative that you incorporate drills that focus on speed off the mark, acceleration, coordination, backward, forward, lateral and vertical movements.
Here I have included four examples of what you can do to get started in this type of training to improve your overall game.

* Jump Rope -- Yes, you need to get skipping to increase your aerobic abilities, improve hand-foot co-ordination and fast footwork.
* Agility Ladder -- I use this for a variety of sports as it is so versatile and essential for working on your agility, quickness, balance and fast-feet.
* Step Hurdles -- These are great because they come in many shapes and sizes which keeps the training interesting. Hurdle drills can train forward, lateral movement, foot speed and knee lift.
* Resistor Bands -- A great aid to isolate and condition muscles to increase speed and quickness.
These are just a few of the speed and agility equipment available out there for you to use for targeting all the muscles needed to increase power and strength. Do your standard training drills and make sure to incorporate various Basketball speeds and agility drills into your workouts. Maybe you are unsure of the type of training you should be doing or need to be pointed in the right direction. If that is so then use a good speed training workout program to ensure that all areas are covered.
