So for example play the E then F with your index finger, F# with your middle finger, G with your third finger and then G# with your little finger. Then shift your hand down the bass fret board and play the A (5th fret) with your index finger and so on.

With in a few minutes you will start to become familiar with the bass guitar notes. Next do the same thing in reverse. Begin at the bottom of your bass guitar neck and work your way back up to the top.

Spend a few minutes each day and you will have this down in no time at all. Then just move down to the next string and repeat the progress.

Another good way to learn the bass guitar notes is to say the note names when you are playing scales or songs. Just practise like you normally would but play more slowly and say the note names as you go. I find that bring up some bass tab rock and roll and playing some classics is great fun to do.

By knowing the bass guitar notes it will also assist you later when you start to play bass guitar chords. They are constructed of multiple notes and knowing the bass notes and the fret board really well you can quickly piece together any chord with ease.
