Bath Salts
Simple Recipes for Bath Salts
The term bath salts refers to a range of water-soluble, usually inorganic solid products designed to be added to a bath, either to improve cleaning, provide a medical improvement, to improve the experience of bathing, or to serve as a vehicle for cosmetic agents. Bath salts have been developed which mimic the properties of natural mineral baths or hot springs. Here are a few easy recipes for creating divine bath salts of your own.
EARTH BATH SALTS
1/2 cup epsom salts
1 cup baking soda
1/2 cup rock salt
1/2 tsp. vitamin E
2 tsp. light oil (almond, sunflower, etc...)
20 drops Patchouli essential oil
15 drops Cypress essential oil
5 drops Vetivert essential oil
Green food coloring
Directions
Mix all salts and baking soda together. Then combine oil, essential oils, vitamin E and a few
drops of coloring in a separate bowl. Add liquid to
salts and mix thoroughly. You can add more green food coloring, if desired, but I find it nicer when
it's a very light green as it does not look as
artificial. To use, add a few heaping tablespoons to bath.

The Art of Making Soaps and Candles
Excerpt from the Ebook

The art of manufacturing soap has been, in a measure, known and followed for many ages, proving a source of industry and advantage to various nations and individuals. It may therefore interest some of our readers if we attempt to trace its origin and progress as indicated by the writings of the earlier authors.
Pliny, for instance, the Roman historian, informs us that the art of manufacturing soap is the invention of the Gauls, and that the best article made by them was a combination of goats' tallow and the ashes of the beech-tree. They also seem to have been acquainted with both hard and soft soaps.
The Romans eventually acquired this knowledge from the Gauls, by whom this branch of industry was, with their conquests, soon spread over Europe. Whoever may have been the originators of soap making, the Romans were undoubtedly familiar with it.
Soap was often used by the Romans as a cosmetic, for Pliny tells us that soap, with which the Germans colored their hair red, was imported into Rome for the use of the fashionable ladies and their gallants in that city. This cosmetic was probably tinged with the juice of a plant.
But before we recur further to less remote times, we will endeavor to answer the question, "What substitutes were employed previous to the invention of soap?"
In the remotest times, it appears that clothes were cleaned by being rubbed or stamped upon in water without the addition of any substance whatever. We are told by Homer, that Nausicaa and her attendants, washed their garments by treading upon them in pits containing water. We find, however, at a later period, that mention is made of ashes and a lye of ashes, but it is so seldom noticed that their primary use cannot be ascertained.
Various ancient writers inform us, furthermore, that lixivious natural salts were employed for washing, such as the nitrum, designated "borith" in the writings of the Hebrews. In the present day it has commonly been supposed equivalent to nitre, but this is an error, for it has been evidently proved that the ancients understood by the word nitrum, the carbonated alkali either of potassa or soda. Both of these substances are natural products, and found in many places and in large quantities, either in outcrops of different rocks or prairies, or in springs and lakes.

How to Make Your Own Perfume
Excerpt from the Ebook

Why is it that women love perfume as much as men love cars? There are some researchers who believe that a woman's reason for loving perfume is because of the pheromones their bodies produce. Often, certain scents or perfumes trigger the increase of how much pheromone a woman's body will produce.
While a perfume will help in increasing the production of a woman's pheromone levels, they are also liked by women because of the attention they get from a member of the opposite sex or even from another woman.
In studies carried out, nearly 80% of all women will make a perfume purchase at least once each year.
Many women will tell you that the reason they purchase a particular perfume for themselves is that it makes them smell great and they seem to feel better about themselves. It also makes them feel a little bit more feminine.
Not only does smelling great make a woman feel good about herself, but it will make her feel attractive also.
This ebook looks at ways of making your own perfume so that you can produce a scent which is particular to you, and unlike any of those that you can buy either in store or over the internet.
You can read more about how to make your own perfume here.
Herbal Acne Remedies
There is a class of herbs called "alternative herbs". These herbs are basically used for the purpose of cleansing body tissues. They are herbs that help the body with the detoxification process. Some of the alternative herbs include burdock, cleavers, red clover, figwort, poke root, Echinacea, and blue flag.
One of the more powerful forms of acne remedies is herbal remedy. For people who are averse to taking strong acne drugs this is a very good option. The only problem with herbal remedies is that they are very slow acting and the results can take up to a month to become visible. The reason why herbal acne remedies take time is that these remedies depend on the body's capacity to metabolize fats and carbohydrates. Herbal remedies cure acne by encouraging the elimination of acne through the lymphatic system.
Like most herbal remedies these herbal acne cures are best when a combination of herbs is used. One frequently used and very popular combination is Echinacea, burdock, blue flag, and yellow dock. Just mix and prepare an infusion using hot water. Drink a cup about three times daily. If you wish to improve the flavor then please do no add sugar, instead, use honey. A second combination is dandelion, sarsaparilla, and burdock. Mix them up when they are dry herbs. Prepare an infusion as before and have 3 cups a day. A third decent combination for acne is lavender, yarrow, and elder flowers.
Remember, this article is provided as information only and is not a substitute for sound medical advice. Please check with your doctor before trying any of these remedies.
