A Look Back in Time

Bathing more than once a week was an extravagance my grandmother refused to indulge in, but she cherished her weekly bath and often told me what it was like when she was a child. From the time the ice broke in the spring until it froze over in the winter, she bathed in the frigid lake water. As with most the working class at the time, a dip in a river, lake, or stream was a part of their weekly routine.

Hey! Where did the bubbles come from?
Can you come up with a better caption?

The working man was a logical fellow and made the most of what was available to him. Bathing was usually a private affair, but on occasion it was turned into part of the mating ritual. A lake doesn't qualify as a hot tub, but it can be just as much fun.
A Quick Dip
Can you think of a caption for the picture below? They're using soap so it should be clean.

Just a dip and then we can eat some of that fruit in the center of the garden.

Turn back the clock a little farther and you still have the working class sliding into the closest stream, but the wealthy turned bathing into a social event. The communal bathhouse was almost as popular as the local pub.

All it took was a short walk, outside, and down memory lane, for me to truly appreciate indoor plumbing and the claw-foot tub in the bathroom. I like to bathe with nothing but a glass of wine, a good book, and my Rubber Ducky for company.

- This is really a fun lens! Years ago my brother-in-law and his wife had a little tiny house near a lake and they bathed in the lake regularly...took a towel and a bar of soap with them. And sometimes that lake was really COLD!!

- Oops, I made a type on one of the captions. "Whose going to get volleyball" should be "Who is...". Sorry! Funny photos, though! The only time I seem to find time for a bath is when I"m on the road by myself in a hotel. Other than that, you'd think I'd forgotten I even have a bathtub - it's all showers at home.
