The Joker, Batman's archfoe, has instigated an elaborate plot from within Arkham Asylum where many of Batman's other villains have been incarcerated. Batman investigates and comes to learn that the Joker is trying to create an army of Bane-like creatures that threaten Gotham City, and is forced to put a stop to the Joker's plans. (con't reading)

Joker vs. Joker: Who Played the Better Joker in the Batman Movies?
In 1989, the Joker, played by Jack Nicholson, became an icon who was a stone-cold killer while maintaining the persona of a humorous prankster. In 2008, the Joker is revived by Heath Ledger, who depicts an embodiment of evil and anarchy out to prove the absurdities of the wold, with no empathy for anyone.

I honestly believe the new Batman franchise is incorrect. I mean yes the Joker is a psychopath and a criminal genius but they emphasized that aspect of his character too much, almost completely leaving out the concept that he is a CLOWN. Sure, you had the pencil trick, which was hilarious and a few other things but you can count on one hand all the things he did in that movie that were 'funny'.
