Batter Blaster Pancakes and Waffle in a Can or Batter Bust?

Batter Blaster Ready to Cook Pancake and Waffle Batter - worth it or not?
Batter Blaster ready to cook pancake and waffle batter comes in a can and, in theory, is a great idea. So was the Hindenburg and the Titanic although, admittedly, the Batter Blaster hasn't killed anyone (as of this writing). It did sort of ruin one of my nicer pans though as it stuck horribly to the bottom. Lots of elbow grease later and the pan and I were back in business and the Batter Blaster was on its way to the local dump.
The picture in this module is what the Batter Blaster pancakes are supposed to look like. Scroll further down to see what they look like in practical terms.
Batter Blaster Specifics
-
1"Batter Blaster brings you the only fresh, ready-to-cook pancake and waffle batter in a pressurized can."
Well, so far (thankfully) that's true. I couldn't find another pancake and waffle batter in a pressurized can but, then again, is that a good thing? Perhaps there's a reason there's only one on the market. -
2"Its unique, patent-pending process allows Batter Blaster to make fresh, healthy, delicious pancakes in minutes."
Fresh? Nope, not really. After you open the can, you have about 7 days to use the batter before it turns sour (the dogs wouldn't eat the resulting pancakes and, for my dogs, that pretty much says it all).
Healthy? Yes, not too bad for you. The Original Organic Batter Blaster is just 80 calories for 1/4 cup (about two 4" pancakes), is 0.5 grams of fat, 280 mg of sodium, 17 grams of carbs, and 2 grams of protein. The Double Chocolate Batter Blaster is 90 calories for 1/4 cup, 1 gram of fat, 290 mg of sodium, 20 grams of carbs and still only 2 grams of protein (note to company: why should pancakes be chocolate???). The Organic Whole Wheat Batter Blaster with Cinnamon and Brown Sugar and Buttermilk Blatter Blaster follow suit. None of them are horrible for you.
Let's work on the claim of "delicious" now. Admittedly, my 94 year old Mom does like the things but, at this point in her life (and I don't mean to be discriminatory against the aged), her taste buds, how should I put it....suck. Yep, the woman likes Spaghetti-O's. So, I'm not sure she's the best judge of delicious. I can tolerate Batter Blasters for just a day or two and then detect the start of the souring process of the pancake batter in the can. -
3"You can get 28 4-inch pancakes out of one can of Batter Blaster."
This claim is probably true although I'm not sure I'd ever know as they always run together in the pan. I'll "blast" 3 separate rings and end up with something that looks like a silhouette of Mickey Mouse. -
4"A can of Batter Blaster lasts until the expiration date on the bottom of the can. "
Oh, no no no, mon frere! Not even close. As noted above, you have just about 7 days to use the stuff before it becomes insect repellant.
Why I bought Batter Blaster to begin with
With a soon-to-be 95 year old Mother, one recipe of Aunt Jemima pancakes can last a month. I liked the fact that I could make her 2 or 3 pancakes fresh every morning. I also liked the ease of the preparation (squirt and go) until I got to the clean up part.Sure, it was easy to hold the can upside down, sure, it was easy to let go a "blast" to make the perfect pancake (not), sure, it was easy to clean the pan - oh wait! No it wasn't! The things stuck even though I had sprayed the pan as the Batter Blaster can suggested. I had to soak my Farberware pan for quite a while to get the black out.
Now, if you have kids, Batter Blaster might be sort of fun as even a young kid can hold down the nozzle and "make breakfast for Mommy." It should also be easy to do alphabet letters but, well, we've already seen how successful I was with that.

Batter Blaster or Batter Bust?
Would you try Batter Blaster pancakes and waffle in a can?

Heck no! They look perfectly horrible.
priscillaB says:
Until I saw "pressurized" can I was thinking about it and then I got scared,LOL.
Writingnag says:
I'd rather make my own instead of using a highly processed product! Thanks for the lens though very funny!
cocktailsexaminer says:
Kinda reminds me of easy cheese in a can... not so much....
vallain says:
I think the Batter Blaster people might want to buy this webpage (and kill it). Sure doesn't sound like anything I would want to try after reading your experience.
scarlettohairy says:
I voted no, not because they look horrible. The picture of the pancakes looks delicious but I prefer waffles and never make or eat pancakes these days. The whole aerosol can thing seems odd to me, too. (Security word? dogskip as in your dogs skipped the Batter Blaster pancakes!)
Yes, I'd give them a try. You might be lying.
Heather says:
Not only WOULD I try them...but I have tried them...and continue to buy it. I think it's delicious and convenient. And yes, there is an absolute need for chocolate pancakes!!! Hello? Chocolate!! If you don't want chocolate pancakes for breakfast then think about the desserts you could make!! I really like this product. And PS...I find it lasts to the expiration date.
Jack says:
Batter Blaster cooks up great if you use non-stick spray. Also, I find it's best if you get the can out of the fridge about 10 minutes before you use it, so that the batter is not too cold when you use it. It cooks more evenly. Also it does not turn sour in the fridge after 7 days as stated above. It is usually good till the date on the bottom of the can.
MiddleSister says:
Sure...
Update: a rebuttal to the duel
There's two problems with this theory. First off, if you use a non-stick pan, you are never ever supposed to spray it with cooking spray like the can says. I ruined a very expensive set of Calpalon pans doing this and was told specifically by the Calphalon rep that spraying a non-stick pan with any kind of cooking spray will adhere the oil to the teflon in the pan, thereby rendering the pan useless. That said, I did try to make the Batter Blaster pancakes on a non-stick pan with no spray - they came out just like the ones I show in the picture. All full of air bubbles, burnt on one side and raw on the other.
The second point Jack makes about the can not souring is also totally wrong. I had a can of Batter Blaster last year and it soured exactly 7 days after opening - the expiration date was 30 days later. I called the company and they said that this has been reported. They were kind enough to send me a coupon for another can (why did I want another one?), and that's what I bought the last can with.
I will try to remember to take the can out of the refrigerator 10 minutes before using it but, then again, I think I'll just make some Aunt Jemima pancakes and be done with it. They come out great each and every time.
So, how's I do?
I tried to sort these to make more sense but Squidoo wasn't cooperating.
Filling in the G after it had set
If you use Aunt Jemima Pancake mix like I do...
Got pancakes?
Hopefully, not from a can.
I've eaten a lot of pancakes in my time so I know what I'm talking about but I'd love to hear your experiences with Batter Blaster if you have any. And, even if you don't, how about giving a girl a comment?

- I learned how to make pancakes by only wiping a non-stick pan with a tiny bit of vegetable oil. Keeping the pan at an even heat helps also and not putting the batter in too fast before the pan is hot enough.

- I really can't believe the stupidity of what I just read about using cooking sprays on teflon pans. Why in the hell would you use sprays when all you had to do was throw some butter on the pan which btw would tastes much better. Wake up people!
