Battery Orgainzer / Tester Makes it Easy to Have Your Batteries Ready for Hurricane Season

This simple, inexpensive battery organizer case with a tester is one of the best purchases I ever made!

Like many people who live on the coast, I have a whole kitchen drawer just for batteries and a few other small hurricane supplies. After all, we know there is a real possibility a power outage will last for not just hours, but days, during hurricane season.

And that drawer was a jumbled mess, with a mix of C cells, D cells, AA, AAA, and 9-volt batteries all mixed in. Some of them, unbeknownst to me, were even dead, and have now been disposed of. Yes, it was a real mess, but, just look at that drawer now!

This battery organizer was only a small purchase, but it's made my life WAY easier.

Hurricane Season officially begins on June 1,
even though our first named storm appeared in May.
Are you ready?

I'm Organized with this Battery Case

I was looking for something else on Amazon when I happened on this 66 battery organizer, and boy, am I glad I did! I ordered it and it makes a nice addition to my hurricane preparedness. It has holes for mounting on the wall, but I prefer it in my battery drawer. I can always lift it out and put it on the counter during a power failure. There's just enough bottom 'lip' to hold each battery in, but still allow you to push one out from below if you should want to do that.

I can see at a glance how many of each type of battery I have, and can tell just by looking that I probably need one more pack each of double A and triple A batteries, as well as a couple of 9-volts before the official beginning of hurricane season on June 1. I now know exactly how many of each size battery. The loose ones that were just rolling around in the drawer have all been tested, and the bad ones thrown out.

Predictions for 2012 Hurricane Season

Early predictions for the 2012 Atlantic Hurricane Season were for an "above average" year. However, it looks as if the forecast may be lowered as the start of hurricane seaon approaches.

I hope se! That will be a pleasant change from last year, which produced 9 named storms, and put 2011 in a four way tie for the third most active season on record. Just three of these nineteen named storms made landfall in the U.S. - Tropical Storm Don, Hurricane Irene, and Tropical Storm Lee.

How many named storms will we have in 2012?

Can you live without a battery organizer and tester?

Sure you can!
I got along without a battery organizer and tester for decades. But I am really glad to have one now!

Mainly, I'd like this lens to serve as a reminder that hurricane season IS coming, and that you NEED to be prepared. Just because we got off easy last year (and the year before) doesn't mean the same thing is going to happen this year.

PLEASE get started by doing the following:
1 - Go over your hurricane supplies and refresh where needed.
2 - Review your emergency plans with your family.
3 - Make sure your insurance is up to date
4 - Answer this: Are essential papers and data (computer back-ups) are where you can grab them easily if you need to evacuate?

Hurricane Season 2012

Will it be another busy one?

So far, at least one respected sourde, TSR, says there is a good probibility of an above average season. Eventhough hurricane season is still several months away, there are certain factors that can be accessed that can lead to some general assumptions about what kind of a season may lie ahead.

The latest report from Tropical Storm Risk has decreased the forecast numbers for this year! We may be in for a break in 2012. Keep your fingers crossed!

Where do you keep your spare batteries?

How do you keep your supply of extra batteries organized?

Nice lens - and a good way to remind folks to be prepared. I keep my spare batteries on a shelf. They're fairly well organized, but that Battery Organizer you reviewed looks good, too.

Drawer in the kitchen under the microwave like everyone else!

My spare batteries are in the "battery box" of course. All in a jumble of half-opened packages, with nary a tester in sight. Definitely need a charger and tester.

To answer the questions, I keep my batteries in a kitchen drawer, and I don't really keep them organized. I am one of those organizer types too, so this organizer will make me very happy.

I am also in Florida, and so I also have a drawer full of batteries that just hangout. I found a battery charger that recharges alkaline batteries! You can't recharge an alkaline battery as many times as a rechargable, but it is very good for charging up emergency batteries every so often.

Also, that battery case is awesome. I would hate for a picture of my battery drawer to ever leak out.

Great Lens and comprehensive product review. Fortunately, the UK very rarely gets hurricane conditions, but we do use batteries for travelling in our camper. Useful info, thanks.

This is not a want, but a NEED if you live where there are hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, or severe weather of any kind. Whenever anyone asks, I tell them a our Midland brand Emergency Weather Band radio is a good choice, because that's what we have. We got our current one just before the 2004 Hurricane Season. That was the year that 4 hurricanse hit our state! it's still working like a charm.

Just don't forget to keep it plugged in, and the batteries fresh so that they will take right over when the power goes out!
