The Battlestar Galactica Series began with the destruction of the 12 colonies and the formation of the survivors into a fleet. Humans and sentient machines called cylons fought a war 40 years earlier. During the past 40 years, cylons that appear as humans infiltrate the 12 colonies without humans becoming aware. One cylon known as "number six" manages to get close to Baltar who is working on critical defense systems for the colonies. Persuaded by the cylon, he talks the colonies into using computers and networks. The cylons are easily able to penetrate the computer networks, and they launch a surprise attack destroying the colonies.
The only warship to survive the attack in the battlestar galactica commanded by Adama. Other ships that perform various non military tasks also make it, and togther the survivors band together into a fleet and flee the cylons.

Season One
The fleet soon discovers there are cylons that are indistinguishable from humans and that there are cylons among the fleet. Roslin is the highest ranking official of the old political system of the colonies and she inherits the presidency. Roslin becomes the political leader, while Adama is the military leader. The fleet decides to go in search of the lost 13 colony of Kobol. Roslin has visions of saving the fleet by finding Earth, and she sends Starbuck back to Caprica to find the Arrow of Apollo. Season one ends with viper pilot Boomer activating as a sleeper cylon and shoots Adama on the bridge of the Galactica.
