Legend has it that Daphne begged the gods to save her from Apollo's amorous pursuing, they transformed her in to a Bay Laurel. Apollo, being torn to pieces by a love he could never have, declared the bush a sacred bush. Poets and distinguished Warriors where bestowed with Laurel Crowns. To this day well known Poets are called "laureates", while the expression:"resting on ones laurels", means that one is taking a well deserved break.

A relaxing tea can be made out of crushed leaves by using 1 to 2 teaspoons to a cup of boiling water. Make sure you strain it well and no leave pieces are left in the cup. The edges are very sharp and can do major damage to your throat. Drink 2-3 cups a day for relaxation.

Growing Bay Laurel

Bay Laurel is a small evergreen tree that is very hard to grow. Trying to grow it from seeds, you will find that seeds have a tendency to grow mold. Growing it from cuttings is a very challenging undertaking and if successful it will take up to six months to grow roots.
It is best to obtain saplings from the nursery and grow them indoors. You will have a wonderful aromatic plant and fresh leaves all the time. In summer, when there is no danger of frost, you can bring it outside, but it has to be inside if there is any frost in the forecast.
Bays like rich and well-drained soil and plenty of sun.
