Things about me that you might not want to know.

This page is my main profile page and will give you a short introduction of who I am, what I am about, what are the things that interest me, and some of my views. I plan to let it build over time. If you stop by often, you might get to know me fairly well. Or, at least as well as you want to get to know. Anyway, you are invited back. Yes, most people call me "Bernie" as my name.

A Few Words About Me

type=textI work mostly for charities. Although, in some ways I regret it. I currently have been working for a local church, in Omaha, since 1988. Before that I did shelter work for the homeless for a while. Before that I was at another church in Chicago. My college days and Military service in two different branches started out my adult life.

As for church work, I generally think that it is a very worthy cause. However, working for a church might be the quickest way to make a person into an atheist. Although, I am not an atheist. Some of the repulsive things that I have either witnessed or have been part of within the church communities would either make your head spin or make you puke. It might be an eye-opening book after I retire.

My start was being born in a big city where a large vacant lot was frequently referred to as a prairie.

Outside of the yearly vacations, often in areas that you could still hear the street traffic, my first big move was to the rural part of North Dakota. When I first got up there I wondered why all of the drivers would wave or stop for a short chat. It wasn't very long that I discovered that I might be the only one they see all day, sometimes all week.

Middle childhood was a bit of a thrill. One of the biggest thrills was getting out of the city for a week or so to go to a summer camp. Nothing quite like that for a kid. Even for a kid at heart. I often observed how much the adults enjoyed themselves at the summer camp that was built for and ran for the kids. Most of the adults had a kid or two there at the camp, but some didn't.

As things build, I hope to later give you more about my hobbies and interests on other pages sometime in the future. Along with some of my political and social views.

    Bernie,
Interesting "About Me" you made me laugh. Your experience with working with churches, that is. I guess any organization has it's pitfalls. I was so relieved when I retired from my career. Squidoo may interest you. It has a big community.
