Planet Earth might be the best in terms of mass appeal but the Life of Birds is a masterpiece; you could base a whole ornithological degree course on it.
  • Auntie-M Apr 24, 2012 @ 1:16 am | delete
I can certainly see why this got the purple star! Great lens.
  • riki_writing4u Apr 21, 2012 @ 8:31 am | delete

I love all things Earthly... learning about everything on this planet it just amazing to me. Different cultures and animals, so many things to see, there's no way anyone could ever experience absolutely everything this world has to offer. I appreciate all that those people go through to bring us into all of those worlds to see all of the uniqueness they all have to offer :)

I love this lens! Watching animal documentaries is one of my favorite things while sitting infront of the tv. One of my greatest moments in life was being able to go to the Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania after seeing it on so many animal documentaries. It is a spiritual experience to see animals in their natural environment.
  • MelonyVaughan Feb 22, 2012 @ 7:15 pm | delete

I don't think I've seen all of these because I don't have cable and many of these are cable only shows. I love David Ateenborough, though. My favorite books are the Born Free series in which there was a part where he came to do a documentary of Elsa the lioness and she ended up sitting on him while he was sleeping.

The BBC has always put out excellent documentaries and its a shame they aren't as widely seen as the could be. Even if they are still pretty popular as far as documentaries go.

Love the planet earth documentary! And love your lens!
  • IanMayfield Jan 2, 2012 @ 5:02 pm | delete
So many great nature documentaries produced by the BBC, and you really shouldn't have a lens about them without featuring David Attenborough's original epic trilogy that set the mould: Life on Earth, The Living Planet and The Trials of Life.

Even when he's not on screen personally, the man's infectious enthusiasm and wonder-infused voice makes it impossible not to be awestruck about the amazing place we live in.
  • bloomingrose Dec 31, 2011 @ 3:24 pm | delete

The British Broadcasting Company has always been ahead of its time. I have watch BBC documentaries passionately for over 35 years and have learned so much about our planet, the animals that inhabit this space with humans and how we are all intertwined!

David Attenborough and Kenneth Clark are pioneers in making documentaries that educated and entertain in the same vein of Ken Burns.

Wow, this is an amazing lens! I can see why you got a purple star for it! And you're right, the BBC does do amazing documentaries and David Attenborough has got the perfect voice for it. Some of these pictures are amazing too, especially the Tiger one at the beginning!

There is something about both the way that the BBC makes documentaries, and the voice of David Attenborough that make these series the classics that they are, and famous all over the world. Nobody quite does it like the BBC. Nicely featured, blessed.
  • sousababy Nov 5, 2011 @ 10:23 am | delete

The BBC does make incredible documentaries. Nature programs are sometimes traumatic for me because I love to watch the wonders of nature but I can't look at predation and death. Still one has to appreciate the work and dedication that goes into these amazing programs.

Beautiful lens! How do you frame your pictures the way you do? (Like the one of the elephants at the beginning of your lens.) Is it a module?

    Thanks!

What a great reminder of great programmes. David Attenborough can do no wrong for me!
  • Timewarp Jan 6, 2011 @ 11:12 pm | delete
Yes, it's a travesty that they replaced Attenborough on the version that aired on American TV, there's no way you can improve on the BBC HD version!
