"The Office"
A lot of people don't know this, but the American version of "The Office" is a knock-off of the BBC version. I've watched both countries' shows, and I tend to like Britain's a lot more. However, I do think both shows are great and very funny.
This lens will give you a comparison of characters, and the differences and similarities between the two series.

David Brent / Michael Scott
The Boss
David Brent is the type of boss who wants to be everyone's friend and mentor. He imagines that everyone finds him very funny and loves being around him, yet still respects him and looks up to him as a boss and even a father figure. He is, of course, spectacularly wrong - his employees find him tolerable at best and often irritating.
Michael Scott's social immaturity and inability to cope with responsibility is balanced with a personality that is much more caring than Brent, even if he retains the ability to make unwise comments in the heat of the moment. Unlike Brent, who pretends to be friendly with many of his employees purely for the benefit of the cameras, Scott seems to genuinely like his colleagues, with the sole exception of Human Resources Director Toby Flenderson. Brent appears much more aware of his own social awkwardness, whereas Scott's belief that people see him as a genuine friend leads him to become very hurt when he realizes this is not the case.

- The UK one is very British but it's also very funny. Ricky Gervais' humor is universal. I'm with you on this - the BBC version is funnier.

- I am a big fan of the UK show. I am afraid I didn't like the US one - although I probably would have done had I just seen it in isolation from the original. I think the UK one if very very British. You aren't going to get the title sequence if you have never been to Slough!

- There have been knock-offs of British shows for years - so many Americans never realized either...
Sandford and Son - a copy of Steptoe and Son.
All in the Family - Til Death Us Do Part.
Three's Company - same
Coupling - same name - if flopped in the USA
Even the Folgers Tasters Choice commercials in the 90's were the exact same as the Nescafe Gold Blend commercials in England - same cast, avcually the same commercial, just different brand name.
Hmmm - maybe an idea for another lens...
Oh yes - nice lens and a great show of course :)
