BBQ Cookoff
Is a great recipe all you need to win a BBQ cookoff? That's a great place to start but there is more to winning a BBQ cookoff than creating a BBQ recipe. Take a look at these tips for having a great showing at your next (or first) BBQ cookoff.
How to Prepare for a BBQ Cookoff
For the First Time Cookoff Participant
Preparation for a bbq cookoff starts long before you actually enter a contest. Here are just a few tips on how to prepare for a BBQ Cookoff:
Attend at least one bbq cookoff before entering one. Take that time to talk to the teams participating and ask any questions you have about the cookoff.
Volunteer to help the judges at the bbq cookoff you're just attending or better yet volunteer to be a judge.
Choose your first cookoff carefully. It's probably best to choose a cookoff close to your home.
Read and understand the rules of the bbq cookoff you're entering. If you have any questions about the rules, make sure you get them answered before the cookoff.
Enter only one or two categories so you can focus on those categories.
Choose dependable people to be part of your team.
Choose a great recipe.
Make sure you have the right supplies. The most important things you'll need are your smoker, the meats you're cooking, enough barbeque sauce for all your entrees, spice rubs, charcoal and/or wood, cooking utensils and other paraphernalia for preparing the dishes, worktables. Also don't forget to have food, drinks, and ice available for you and your team.
