Review of Sony BDP-S350 1080p Blu-ray Disc Player
The Sony BDP-S350 1080p Blu-Ray Dis Player is a cheap blu-ray player that has excellent video and audio quality but lacks some features that are found in the higher end models, such as the Sony BDP-S550. It's a good choice if you are on a budget, are buying it as a gift for teen, or if you want a second blu-ray disc player for the basement or den.
At slightly over $200, it is one of the most popular models that you can find on Amazon. Even though it lacks some features, it is still a fast blu-ray disc player that is a great improvement over a DVD player.

All About Blu-Ray
If you are new to blu-ray, you might have some questions. What is it? Is it worth it? Aren't DVDs good enough?
While DVDs do have nice picture and sound quality, they aren't as good as they could be. While you won't notice any problems if you are watching on a smaller, non-HDTV, it becomes obvious when you watch on a high definition television that it could be better.
Blu-ray first came onto the market in 2006 as a new optical disc format, along with HDDVD. The two formats battled it out for awhile, but Blu-ray emerged the victor and HD DVD players are no longer being built.
Blu-ray discs are better in audio and video quality than DVDs. It has 8 channels of lossless and a resolution that is six times greater than a DVD. It also beats DVD in storage, and can hold 5.5 times the amount of data. A single layer blue ray disc holds 25 GB, a dual one holds 50 GB. This allows more special features to be on the disc.
A blu-ray disc player will work with your current television. You won't need to run out to buy a new TV for it to work with it. To fully appreciate it, however, you'll need an HDTV. If the resolution of your television is 480p, 720p, 1080p, or 1080i, you already have an HD TV. 1080p and 1080i are the best resolutions.
Blu-ray players can play and even upconvert DVDs. This means that you won't need to completely replace your current movie collection. Your DVDs will look better when played in the Sony BDP-S350 than they would look in a DVD player.

A Great Gadget Gift
The Sony BDP-S350 is a popular gift. It's good for families who haven't been able to afford a blu-ray player before, as well as families who haven't wanted to budget a large amount of money to entertainment.
The Sony BDP-S350 does lack some features, so it won't be a huge hit with audiophiles. They might pick one up though to use with their second TV, maybe in a finished basement, a bedroom, or a den.
If you are buying a blu-ray disc player for a teenager or someone in college, this is a good choice. It's better than a DVD player, but not that much more expensive than one.
