Valentine's Day Do You Dread It?

Is Valentine's day something you look forward to or are you one of the millions of people who dread Valentine's Day so much they are an Anti-Valentine?
I have to say that I do find some of the more sugary Valentines Day merchandise a little bit toe curling. That doesn't mean I don't think showing your love and affection for someone isn't important. All the same I do have concerns that the commercialization of something very personal sort of betrays the true sentiment.
There are lots of ways you can show your love for someone that is more profound than a huge card a massive box of chocolates or a fluffy toy. I suppose this makes me a bit of an anti valentine. This means I'm against the connotations of rampant consumerism rather than the basic idea of St Valentine's Day.
Anti Valentenism comes in two variants. One kicks back at the commercialization of Valentine's Day by the retail business. Here Valentine's Day is seen simply as a retail ploy to boost sales after the post Christmas lull. The other is a concern that culture and societal norms are manipulated into overt displays of love that unduly emphasise public displays of affection in simplistic over emotional tokenism.
Valentine's Day can also be prejudicial to singles whose solo status is emphasised as unusual and inadequate. This sense of inadequacy is also a subtle retail ploy and might behind the fact that 20% of people admit to sending themselves flowers on the 14th of February, a day that is alternatively called SAD Day or Singles Awareness Day. Particularly in the USA Valentine's day is disparagingly called Hallmark Holiday.
