Joan Adams Is One Positive Lady!
Joan Adams has inspired me, motivated me, and garnered my esteemed respect more than any other person I've met online — in my 12 years on the Internet. Let me introduce you to a very positive, wise, and inspiring lady...

Joan Motivates And Inspires
Joan has been heard to say...
Everybody has a story.
You have to make your own sunshine.
Friends are an important part of our lives — no matter where we go, but especially on-line when we are writing, allowing others to see a glimpse of our souls.
Good enough is often quite enough in life. We do not need to be perfect parents, perfect employees or perfect spouses. We only need to be good enough and work to improve.
Semi-retired grandma and proud of it! I was born to be a grandma and love this stage of my life — maybe more than all the others combined.
Something wonderful happens to you every single day — without fail!!! You just have to be aware of it!
Live passionately, love unconditionally, and laugh every day!
Laugh a little and sing a lot! Sing as if nobody's listening! Sing for the pure joy of singing! Have fun!
We are never too old to learn. Remain open to progress and new ideas!
Life is an adventure.

Joan Adams Walks The Talk

Yes! Joan Adams walks the talk. It's not because her life's always been a bed of roses. In fact, she's no more immune to tragedy than any of us. No, it's because she has chosen to live the best life she possibly can — and it shows! I am one of the many, many people who has gotten to know Joan online. She motivates me to be a better person, and I know she motivates others. She's a wise and wonderful human being. It is with pride that I call her my friend.
An ebook, written by Joan and her sister, Betty DeLorme (preceding picture, with Joan), is filled with 28 tips and techniques for banishing the blahs — those times when you feel down in the dumps, and the answers aren't coming for how to climb out. It's for people who refuse to wallow in self-pity — people who want to stop thoughts and feelings they know are not conducive to their goal of being positive. Banish The Blahs And Be Happy gives people the means to actively seek to be positive! It's very motivational — just like Joan, and I highly recommend adding it to your self-improvement and motivational ebook collection.

Poetry Inspires Joan
"Life for me ain't been no crystal stair"
Mother to Son (aka "Crystal Stair"), by Langston Hughes, is a poem that inspired Joan during a particularly rough time in life. She's published the poem on a lens; link follows later.
For this poem and other inspirational poetry, you might consider the following book from Amazon.
Leading from Within: Poetry That Sustains the Courage to Lead
Amazon Price: $13.57 (as of 11/12/2009)![]()
List Price: $19.95
Product Description Leading from Within is a wonderful collection of ninety-three poems from well-loved poets, each of which is accompanied by a brief personal commentary from a leader explaining the significance and meaning of the poem in his or her life and work. The contributors represent a wide range of professions including Vanguard Group founder John Bogle, MoveOn.org cofounder Joan Blades, several members of Congress, Christian activist Brian McLaren, business guru Peter Senge, and many other leaders from business, medicine, education, nonprofits, law, politics and government, and religion. In their reflections, these leaders explore how they have been inspired by poets such as T.S. Eliot, Mary Oliver, William Stafford, Langston Hughes, Pablo Neruda, Robert Frost, Rumi, May Sarton, Wallace Stevens, Wendell Berry, and Rainer Maria Rilke.

Betty and Nancy Speak About Joan
Joan's sisters graciously answered my questions
Nancy
What was Joan like as a little girl? Joan was the middle girl and we always tease her about being the Rebellious one. She always had a mind of her own and doesn't appreciate anyone telling her what to do. Of course, I must say that we are all like that to some degree so it must be hereditary.
What did she love to do as a child? As a young girl, she and her friend played dolls a lot in the vacant lot between the two houses. I remember that well since I was 4 years younger and my dolly and I weren't always welcomed. She had a Tiny Tears Doll. In her teenage years, she loved to dance especially shag and has always loved all kinds of music and of course, the boys. She was a majorette and I was so proud to watch her march with the band.
What makes you proud that she's your sister? Being the youngest of three girls, I have always admired my two older sisters. I was always proud of them and thought that both of them were perfect. I am so proud of what Joan has done with Squidoo. She has always had a talent for writing and it sure shows with her lenses.
What is the main lesson you've learned from Joan about life? I have learned a lot about life from my sister, Joan. It is hard to narrow it down to one specific lesson. I guess overall the main lesson would be to try to "make a difference" with my life. Joan has overcome obstacles and her life "ain't been no crystal stair" but she keeps on keeping on like the Little Train That Could as she says "I think I can, I think I can". She is very intelligent and keeps learning and growing everyday and she definitely "makes a difference". She used to tell us that she wanted these words on her tombstone: "Here lies Joan. She tried!"
Betty
What was Joan like as a little girl? Joan was "spunky!" And still is! She was probably the most daring of the three of the sisters...
What did she love to do as a child? Oh, we played paperdolls, games, school, dolls, colored, read, and in the summers, ran barefoot and enjoyed the cool water from the hose sprinkler! In early years, we lived in a small town with many relatives nearby, and they were in and out, constantly paying attention to the children.
What makes you proud that she's your sister? Joan is a SURVIVOR! She, and we as a family, had "bumps in the road." Despite it all, she "keeps on keeping on!" Joan has maintained a beautiful marriage and they raised two wonderful children. Now, she thoroughly enjoys the grandmother role in addition to writing - especially Squidoo!
What is the main lesson you've learned from Joan about life? Joan is an inspiration to me! We are truly "as different as night and day" but she daily influences my life. She works on positives, on growing and reading and learning and stretching and doing...and has taken me along for the ride! We don't always agree, and that is okay. She has truly broadened my horizons!
Nancy can be found at her blog, Oh Me, Oh My!, here at Squidoo, and as well as on Twitter. Betty is at her blog, Pinwheels, the Squidoo lens she wrote with Joan: Kids With Special Needs, and of course, Banish The Blahs.
Three Wonderful Sisters

The Happy Tate Girls — Nancy, Betty, and Joan
Family name: Tate
During their growing-up years, Betty, Joan, and Nancy were known as The Tate Girls. They are all three over the age of 60 and still loving each other and still growing and learning. I am 52 years old, and I see hope in that! I do not want to be sitting around twiddling my thumbs in a rocking chair; I want to continue to grow and learn and do! All three of these ladies are an inspiration!
Celebrate sisterhood with this inspirational book:
Chicken Soup for the Sister's Soul: Inspirational Stories About Sisters and Their Changing Relationships (Chicken Soup for the Soul)
Amazon Price: $10.17 (as of 11/12/2009)![]()
List Price: $14.95
Product Description: A celebration of the dynamic bond of sisterhood and the special role sisters play our lives and hearts.
This new Chicken Soup book offers a heartwarming and uplifting collection of stories that celebrate the lifelong bond of sisterhood.
Whether they share this special connection with someone through genetics or the heart, only a sister can understand the complex, deep and dynamic relationship they share with loved ones as they journey together through the stages of life.
For younger sisters who look up to an older one, older siblings who tolerate a younger sister tagging along, or the brother who knows full well that girls can wrestle as well as any boy can, this book celebrates the sisters in our lives. It conveys how sisters influence us during life's most defining moments: helping us face the schoolyard bully; providing wise counsel during our first crush and subsequent comfort after the breakup; and refusing to reveal intimate secrets to parents or friends.
With real-life stories from celebrities and everyday sisters-next-door, chapters include: On Love, Insights and Lessons, Sibling Rivalry, Overcoming Obstacles, The Bond Between Sisters, Sisters by Heart, On Family (Brothers, Too!), and Special Memories and Traditions.
While they may not live under the same roof, act in the same manner or even get along without an occasional spat, nothing creates a more special and lasting bond than sisterhood. Now there's a book to celebrate that bond.

- Mimi - what a great tribute to a wonderful person, Joan, who has been a positive influence on so many people. I have recently had closer contact with Joan through her work on the BlogTalkRadio. Joan's humility, "can-do" attitude and generosity are inspiring. From the tributes here, it is obvious that Joan attracts creative, positive people who admire her work and willingness to help. I am delighted to have the opportunity to work closer with Joan at present and into the future. One of the very best gifts in life is to be surrounded by positive, creative people.

- MiMi, I just have to keep coming back to this lens, not just because I know Joan and agree with all you say about her..., but also because I want that beautiful Karma that you display to continue to influence, infiltrate and rub off on me a little more with each visit. Testimony of positive influence in friendship is such a special tribute to offer for It bonds and fulfills that relationship so ... but then it also provides viral inspiration and challenge for all who witness. Barrages of thank yous... some written, some spoken, some implied and some just thought continue to be aimed your way for the feeling this testimony conjures into the soul of all who digest it. Unfortunately they won't let me rate you again, but suffice it to say, this stands alone at the top! My thank you is heartfelt and written now, but will be implied and thought at each subsequent reading.

- This is an excellent lens about a fabulous personality. I realize the power, the positivism and the unconditional love of Joan from her 100 lens. It also strikes me how casually she makes long term plans, when girls 1/2 of her age have no idea what they are going to do tomorrow. Yes, Joan life is an inspiration, and her love of life is a lesson.
Mimi, I don't know you; but I am glad I meet you on this lens. You made the lens out of love, and friendship and now I know and appreciate your values.
All the best to Joan and Mimi

- Second Life is a fun imaginary world where you can make real friends! I don't really "roam around" out there without one of my friends to guide me. So join and look for Moonvine Blessed (me). We will come up with a specified time and place - maybe get a bunch of Squidoo folk out there!

- Oh yes, Second Life was such fun and such an addiction! Of course, I well remember dancing in Big Ben! and touring in the boat (wasn't that Scotland?) and one night when we all rode the bull at some seaside bar!! We really need to do that again at specified times. I cannot possibly go out there every night, but once a week would be fun!
and yes yes, Mimi, you must join us! These gals know all the fun spots!

- *grins really HUGE* I remember when Joan/Moonvine lamented about not looking like her real self on SL. What a kick! I really miss Pat's Island... We would sit for hours and talk about everything and nothing all at the same time. Remember when I took you dancing inside Big Ben, Joan? Wheeeeee!
