Joan Motivates And Inspires

Joan has been heard to say...

Good Conversation I

Everybody has a story.

You have to make your own sunshine.

Friends are an important part of our lives — no matter where we go, but especially on-line when we are writing, allowing others to see a glimpse of our souls.

Good enough is often quite enough in life. We do not need to be perfect parents, perfect employees or perfect spouses. We only need to be good enough and work to improve.

Semi-retired grandma and proud of it! I was born to be a grandma and love this stage of my life — maybe more than all the others combined.

Something wonderful happens to you every single day — without fail!!! You just have to be aware of it!

Live passionately, love unconditionally, and laugh every day!

Laugh a little and sing a lot! Sing as if nobody's listening! Sing for the pure joy of singing! Have fun!

We are never too old to learn. Remain open to progress and new ideas!

Life is an adventure.

Joan Adams Walks The Talk

Yes! Joan Adams walks the talk. It's not because her life's always been a bed of roses. In fact, she's no more immune to tragedy than any of us. No, it's because she has chosen to live the best life she possibly can — and it shows! I am one of the many, many people who has gotten to know Joan online. She motivates me to be a better person, and I know she motivates others. She's a wise and wonderful human being. It is with pride that I call her my friend.

An ebook, written by Joan and her sister, Betty DeLorme (preceding picture, with Joan), is filled with 28 tips and techniques for banishing the blahs — those times when you feel down in the dumps, and the answers aren't coming for how to climb out. It's for people who refuse to wallow in self-pity — people who want to stop thoughts and feelings they know are not conducive to their goal of being positive. Banish The Blahs And Be Happy gives people the means to actively seek to be positive! It's very motivational — just like Joan, and I highly recommend adding it to your self-improvement and motivational ebook collection.

Poetry Inspires Joan

"Life for me ain't been no crystal stair"

Mother to Son (aka "Crystal Stair"), by Langston Hughes, is a poem that inspired Joan during a particularly rough time in life. She's published the poem on a lens; link follows later.

For this poem and other inspirational poetry, you might consider the following book from Amazon.

Betty and Nancy Speak About Joan

Joan's sisters graciously answered my questions

Sisters Are Friends Who Listen with Their Hearts

Nancy

What was Joan like as a little girl? Joan was the middle girl and we always tease her about being the Rebellious one. She always had a mind of her own and doesn't appreciate anyone telling her what to do. Of course, I must say that we are all like that to some degree so it must be hereditary.

What did she love to do as a child? As a young girl, she and her friend played dolls a lot in the vacant lot between the two houses. I remember that well since I was 4 years younger and my dolly and I weren't always welcomed. She had a Tiny Tears Doll. In her teenage years, she loved to dance especially shag and has always loved all kinds of music and of course, the boys. She was a majorette and I was so proud to watch her march with the band.

What makes you proud that she's your sister? Being the youngest of three girls, I have always admired my two older sisters. I was always proud of them and thought that both of them were perfect. I am so proud of what Joan has done with Squidoo. She has always had a talent for writing and it sure shows with her lenses.

What is the main lesson you've learned from Joan about life? I have learned a lot about life from my sister, Joan. It is hard to narrow it down to one specific lesson. I guess overall the main lesson would be to try to "make a difference" with my life. Joan has overcome obstacles and her life "ain't been no crystal stair" but she keeps on keeping on like the Little Train That Could as she says "I think I can, I think I can". She is very intelligent and keeps learning and growing everyday and she definitely "makes a difference". She used to tell us that she wanted these words on her tombstone: "Here lies Joan. She tried!"

Betty

What was Joan like as a little girl? Joan was "spunky!" And still is! She was probably the most daring of the three of the sisters...

What did she love to do as a child? Oh, we played paperdolls, games, school, dolls, colored, read, and in the summers, ran barefoot and enjoyed the cool water from the hose sprinkler! In early years, we lived in a small town with many relatives nearby, and they were in and out, constantly paying attention to the children.

What makes you proud that she's your sister? Joan is a SURVIVOR! She, and we as a family, had "bumps in the road." Despite it all, she "keeps on keeping on!" Joan has maintained a beautiful marriage and they raised two wonderful children. Now, she thoroughly enjoys the grandmother role in addition to writing - especially Squidoo!

What is the main lesson you've learned from Joan about life? Joan is an inspiration to me! We are truly "as different as night and day" but she daily influences my life. She works on positives, on growing and reading and learning and stretching and doing...and has taken me along for the ride! We don't always agree, and that is okay. She has truly broadened my horizons!

Nancy can be found at her blog, Oh Me, Oh My!, here at Squidoo, and as well as on Twitter. Betty is at her blog, Pinwheels, the Squidoo lens she wrote with Joan: Kids With Special Needs, and of course, Banish The Blahs.

Three Wonderful Sisters

The Happy Tate Girls — Nancy, Betty, and Joan

Celebrating Sisterhood

Family name: Tate

During their growing-up years, Betty, Joan, and Nancy were known as The Tate Girls. They are all three over the age of 60 and still loving each other and still growing and learning. I am 52 years old, and I see hope in that! I do not want to be sitting around twiddling my thumbs in a rocking chair; I want to continue to grow and learn and do! All three of these ladies are an inspiration!

Celebrate sisterhood with this inspirational book:

Chicken Soup for the Sister's Soul: Inspirational Stories About Sisters and Their Changing Relationships (Chicken Soup for the Soul)

Amazon Price: $10.17 (as of 11/24/2009)Buy Now
List Price: $14.95

Product Description: A celebration of the dynamic bond of sisterhood and the special role sisters play our lives and hearts.

This new Chicken Soup book offers a heartwarming and uplifting collection of stories that celebrate the lifelong bond of sisterhood.

Whether they share this special connection with someone through genetics or the heart, only a sister can understand the complex, deep and dynamic relationship they share with loved ones as they journey together through the stages of life.

For younger sisters who look up to an older one, older siblings who tolerate a younger sister tagging along, or the brother who knows full well that girls can wrestle as well as any boy can, this book celebrates the sisters in our lives. It conveys how sisters influence us during life's most defining moments: helping us face the schoolyard bully; providing wise counsel during our first crush and subsequent comfort after the breakup; and refusing to reveal intimate secrets to parents or friends.

With real-life stories from celebrities and everyday sisters-next-door, chapters include: On Love, Insights and Lessons, Sibling Rivalry, Overcoming Obstacles, The Bond Between Sisters, Sisters by Heart, On Family (Brothers, Too!), and Special Memories and Traditions.

While they may not live under the same roof, act in the same manner or even get along without an occasional spat, nothing creates a more special and lasting bond than sisterhood. Now there's a book to celebrate that bond.

All Golf's Kids

Teaching kids life skills through golf

Joan wrote a lens to honor her husband and to inspire others: Legally Blind Golfer. Please consider making a donation to All Golf's Kids — an organization dedicated to "Enriching the lives of urban, under-privileged children through the many athletic, scholastic and character building virtues of the game of golf."

All Golf's Kids assists, challenges and rewards "disadvantaged," underserved kids through the world of golf and private country club members.

We at Squidoo passionately believe in creating new ways to support good causes online. By making a donation to All Golf's Kids from this page, you are sending money directly to that organization, in whatever amount you want. We don't touch it. We don't even see it. The author of this page doesn't either. And if you made it this far, thanks for caring.

Thanking Joan's Family

This lens turned out to be a wonderful surprise for Joan! A special thank-you to Betty and Nancy for all your help! Thank you for the pictures; the lens would not be the same without them. Thank you to Whitey, Kathy, and Randy. Without your Valentine's Day gift, well, this lens would not be nearly as loving and tender a memory for your wife and mom. Love.
