To be a tutor for a small group of people means that you would be tutoring 2 or 3 students at the same time, in the same subject. There are definite advantages to tutoring a group versus one individual at a time. I would suggest that your group not exceed 3 students, unless you are tutoring a team sport such as basketball or volleyball.When tutoring a group, the group dynamics contribute to the learning of the subject material. This works especially well if all students are at approximately the same level. You are the leader or coordinator, giving tutoring help and teaching when necessary, but also encouraging the students to teach and learn from each other. The teaching opportunities the students take while in the group setting are invaluable learning experiences for themselves. This is the great advantage of group tutoring - the opportunity for students to teach and help each other under your guidance or tutelage.
An advantage to you as the tutor is that you can give each group participant a reduced fee, and you end up making more money. For example, you charge $40 normally to be a tutor to an individual. In a group you could charge each participant $30 and in a group of 3 that means you would be making $90 per hour!
I suggest that you make your group tutoring session a minimum time length of 1.5 hours. To be a tutor to one person only, 1 hour usually works very well. However, you need more time when group tutoring. You may cover more material, but you have more interaction as well. The students do not get bored and overwhelmed as quickly in a group.
