Decorating Ideas for Beach Themed Bedrooms

Decorating ideas for beach themed bedrooms came about one day when I slipped into what I call my "happy place"; a place I go alone in my mind. I imagine myself in a beach theme bedroom with fresh crisp bedding; the window is open allowing a warm summer breeze to dance over my skin. I listen quietly as the sound of the sea fills my ears with its' sweet melody. It's a wonderful place to be.

When I'm in my "happy place", I can stay there all day long. It's peaceful, relaxing, warm, and soothing. There's nothing like it except for the real thing.

It's not hard to mimic a beach theme bedroom in your own home with a little imagination.

I find that when I'm redecorating a bedroom the best place to start is with a new colorful comforter or bedspread set and build from there. For example, to pick out new paint for your beach theme bedroom, take a pillow case or pillow sham to the paint store and choose your wall and trim colors by matching paint swatches provided at the store to colors in your new bedding. Keep these color swatches in your purse and as you run across something you like, compare the colors to your paint swatches and purchase things here and there that you truly love.

Another avenue to finding bedroom accessories for a beach theme bedroom is to look closely at beach bedding sets that are pictured in a room ... such as the images on this lens. Look at the drapes, tables, things displayed on the tables, lamps, vases and flowers used. Use these pictures as your tool in addition to your paint swatches and when you are finished with your bedroom decorating project, you too can escape to your happy place in your beach theme bedroom.

P.S. For those who prefer a cooler happy place, be sure to scroll down to the bottom of this page and check out the slapping penguin. You'll see exactly why I prefer the beach. In the meantime, I'm going back to my happy place in my different beach themed bedrooms

Remember walking along the shore, picking up seashells? Why not ignite those memories again with a seashell decorated bedroom.

For most of us, it is not possible to decorate a room in one shopping trip, and it isn't necessary. If you like the style of this room, start out with a seashell comforter set and build from there.

A bamboo rug, white furniture, striped walls, striped bed-skirt, seashell comforter set, shoreline picture on the wall, decorative pillows, a sleek end-table lamp, candles, white panel curtains, and a small pot of ferns, have all been combine to create this day-dreaming seashell themed bedroom.

Blue and White Coastal Bedroom

Coral Accents and Ocean Wall Mural

This blue and white beach theme comforter set with white coral embroidery compliments the room's white walls and white furniture. Who was it that said white walls are boring???

The only accent pieces shown in this photo are the ocean in the background (which can be created with a wall mural); a few pillows to match the color theme of the room, and a few simple plants. If you don't have a green thumb, realistic artificial plants will do. Just keep them small so they can sit on your nightstand.

White Furniture and Accents

Many prefer light colors when turning a drab room into a beach themed room. A crisp white bedroom set lends itself perfectly to almost any beach themed bedroom.

If white is not an option, further down in this article you'll find rattan and wicker, banana leaf, and bamboo furniture that is another popular alternative for this type of room decor.

Palm Trees

Palm Tree Bedroom and Matching Accessories

Palm trees remind me of long walks in the warm evening air along the shores of the beach in my bare feet.

Imagine resting in a stylish bedroom filled with palm trees. While most of us can't brag about having live palm trees in our bedroom, we can do the next best thing and decorate with them.

I especially like beige walls with palm tree decor; it enables the green from the fronds (leafs) to act as a natural accent color.

Tropical Themed Furniture

Tan colored rattan or wicker, banana leaf, or bamboo bedroom furniture is a warm alternative to the white furniture often seen in beach themed bedrooms.

Daydream about vacation memories; of days playing with colorful beach balls in the sand ... of mornings walking barefoot in the foamy water of the sea ... of orange starfish and colorful beach shells.

Stripes is the dominating factor in this room. From the stripes on the comforter, to the wall, and even the long stripes of the rattan bed frame.

How to Paint a Picture on Your Wall

Palm tree, seashell, starfish ...

If you can hold a paint brush, then why not paint a picture on your wall. It doesn't have to be a huge wall mural, try something smaller like a palm tree, seashell or a starfish.

First draw or trace your subject on paper for practice. When you feel comfortable with what you want to do, go ahead and paint on your wall. You can always paint over it ... or push a dresser up against it to cover it up until you have time to paint.

Another suggestion, if you have access to a projector, is to: (1)Project an image you like to the wall and then ... (2)trace the projected image onto the wall ... (3) turn off the projector ... (4) enjoy painting your masterpiece.

If you are not the artist you wish you were, don't deprive yourself of the freedom of creativity. Start with a simple starfish. It doesn't have to be a room-size starfish. Create one that is 12 inches x 12 inches or smaller on an area you would otherwise nail up a small picture.

If you are REALLY worried about your artistic abilities, remove your clothes from your closet, and make your first drawing in the back of your closet. If you don't like it, when you hang your clothes back up, you won;t see it. (A trick I learned when I was a small child; only my issue was I didn't want to wash walls.)

As you become more experienced, advance to more complex murals if you enjoy it.

Where do you want to be?

Staring at picture of a window is a great place to begin daydreaming.

Find a picture that represents a place you long to be ... one that is beyond the window pane.

Sheet Thread Count Makes a Difference

Did you know that the higher the thread count - the softer and more lushish the sheets feel against the skin!

You may pay more, but why not splurge on yourself. Afterall, a person usually has sheet sets for at least a few years.

Personally, 400 thread count or more is always in my dreams.

You had me travel virtually to the beach inhaling the soft and gently breeze with the sound of rolling waves. A beautiful beach bedding as depicted in this lens goes a long way to feel the comfort of the beach and the leisure.
