Reception Seating Ideas For Your Beach Wedding
Have some fun at your casual beach or summer wedding and add themed names to your reception tables. Instead of using numbers to seat guests, add names, that carry a theme of some kind, to the cards and make them relate to the place or area you will marry. All of the information on this page has come from the state of Florida, but many of these lists would be suitable for use at any tropical, summer or outdoor wedding.
There is a large variety of wildlife, palm trees, and tropical flowers. The state is also known for it's miles of beaches, many natural springs, famous and historical sites and of course theme parks. Sanibel Island is the best place in the US for collecting seashells, so using shell names for place cards would be a lovely touch.
The reception is the place to get creative and adding table names is just one more way to make the celebration more interesting.

Palm Tree Names
Yes, there are lots of them
My mother used to live south of Daytona in a small town named "Edgewater" and when driving to her house I passed through New Smyrna and a development with streets named alphabetically after palm trees.
It became a game for the family to try to remember the which name would come next as we drove along.

If you want to name your tables after the beautiful and plentiful variety of Palm trees, here's a partial list to use.

Name Tables After the Florida Keys
The Keys are the islands that curve off the southernmost tip of Florida
The Florida Keys are a string of islands off the southern tip of Florida. They stretch out into the warm tropical waters for approximately 106 miles with the island of Key West at the southern most point.
The work "key" comes from the Spanish word, "cayo", meaning "small island" and is very appropriate since the Keys are made up of approximately 1700 islands according to Wikipedia, which gives you many names to choose from for your reception tables.
The Keys are bordered by the Atlantic ocean on one side and the Gulf of Mexico on the other. The water is gorgeous, the fishing is the best, and many animal sanctuaries can be found along the line of islands. Don't forget tourists...they are abundant as well.

Tropical Flower and Plant Names
These plants thrive in the humid conditions of the south
Because of the hot, humid climate, many flowering shrubs and trees thrive year round in Florida and tropical islands. Constant heat and rain keep the landscape constantly lush and green and flowers that won't survive the harsh northern cold add special beauty to the southern landscape.
Some of my favorite southern flowers include:
camellias, magnolias, jasmine, gardenias, crepe myrtle, hibiscus, azaleas, and orchids like the one in this photo. Although some of these plants will grow in the north, they thrive in the south.
Florida Beach Names or Coastal City Names
And there are many!

Daytona Beach and Miami Beach are probably the best known, but Florida is full of gorgeous beaches that extend all along the peninsula from the edge of Georgia to the Alabama border. (That is New Smyrna Beach in my photo to the right.)
The Gulf beaches are beautiful and up in the panhandle the sand is almost white. So choose from Atlantic beach names or those along the Gulf, or mix and match.
Here is a partial list of the Atlantic beaches in Florida:
Fernandina Beach
American Beach (an African American beach)
Atlantic Beach (in Jacksonville)
Flagler Beach
Daytona Beach
New Smyrna Beach
Bethune Beach
Cocoa Beach (I Dream of Jeannie anyone?)
Playalinda Beach (allows nude sunbathing!)
South Beach (Miami)
Fort Lauderdale
Canaveral National Seashore
Gulf Coast names include beautiful Destin, Rosemary, Alice, Clearwater, Indian Rocks, Madiera, St. Pete, Ft. Myers, Sanibel, and Naples.
Venue idea for your beach wedding:
Rent a large home on the ocean to celebrate your wedding day and then stay there for the honeymoon, or let the guests stay while you find a more romantic spot.
Skip the Favors and Donate to Florida Wildlife, Protected and Endangered
Make a charity contribution in place of wedding favors
The manatee is a well known favorite but there are many others such as the loggerhead turtle, Florida panther, and various fish, frogs, snakes and even butterflies.

When I lived in Florida I knew about the Eastern Indigo snake being on the endangered list. I never saw one in my 20+ years living there but they are shiny black and still on the list of endangered wildlife.
One of my favorites is the Gopher Tortoise who has lost much of it's living area due to the widespread building and clearing of land.
Instead of naming them all here, I'll just leave this link to a list of animals on the endangered, threatened and of special concern list from the Florida Wildlife Commision.
