Beachcomber Bathroom Decor

Bring a Little Sunshine into Your Home
Love the beach? I know I do, and there is evidence of our beach combing days scattered throughout the house, none more so than in the bathroom. What better place to showcase your collection of sea shells or be reminded of sun filled days and sandy shores? Show off your love of the beach by decorating your bathroom in a beach motif.
Adding a beachcomber ambiance to your bathroom doesn't require a decorator or a great deal of money, just a little paint and a few well chosen accessories.
Color Sets the Tone
When I think back to my days on the beach it's the sunshine and the water that come to mind. The water was a sparkling blue and the sunshine soft. The water and the sunshine provided the background showcasing the boats, birds, beach goers, and sea shells.
Keep that in mind if you decide to paint the bathroom walls. The walls are the background and add to the overall décor, but shouldn't overwhelm the rest.
My personal favorite is a soft yellow. It can be brightened or toned down depending on the seasons and my ever-changing decorating mood.
Focal Point
Choosing a focal point is not always easy. In a small bathroom it may be simply the shell covered shower curtain and a little shadow box on the wall. In a larger bathroom there are considerably more options. Keep picture proportional to the space available. A poster sized print would look out of place in a little bathroom just as a tiny shadow box would look silly hanging by itself on a large, unadorned wall.

Let Your Imagination Run Wild
What and how much you add to the room is a personal decision. Are you fond of fancy toilet seats? Do you prefer matching rugs and shower curtains? Add one or two items at a time until the room looks the way you want it too.

Use Caution!
If your bathroom is small, too many patterns and colors will overwhelm the room.

A Little Can do a Lot
It's the little things that give a room the personal touch. Add a sweet grass basket filled with seashells to your vanity. Get rid of the plastic bottle of hand soap and replace it with a seashell dispenser. What about the toothbrush holder? Guest soaps? Hand towels?

Your options and choices are endless. Have fun with it, and when you're done, grab a glass of wine, settle into a tub full of bubbles, and dream of lazy days on the beach...

- One of the thing is to go back to your bathroom at home and then try to picture the bathroom space decorated as you imagined. You should know that what looks good in other people's bathroom does not end up looking good in the space that you have to work with. The size can play an important role as well as sunlight. Therefore, you have to make sure that the bath decor style you have chosen will blend well with the space available in your bathroom. - This is a great page! I love the tips on beach decor. It would be neat to incorporate this concept into a bathroom vanity unit. Or better yet, create a vessel sink out of sea shells!
