Beach Wedding Jewelry - What to Wear

Getting married at the beach? What better backdrop could you ask for than the beautiful ocean and its waves against a clear blue sky...majestic lava rock formations and soft warm sand at your feet?

But what about jewelry? On this lens I will talk about an alternative idea in beach bridal jewelry perfect for a truly romantic beach wedding.

Jewelry that focuses on the organic appeal of the ocean surroundings

Our island-themed jewelry is both beachy-natural and romantically-classic. It focuses on the organic appeal of freshwater pearls and shells often with hints of Swarovski crystals that sparkle amazingly in the sun. The resulting look goes perfectly with all styles of wedding gowns because it ties in with the natural serenity of the ocean as well as the beauty and romance of the occasion.

A Beach Bride Favorite

A Different Way of Silk Knotting

Our favorite style of beach wedding necklaces are those we create on silk. These are hand-knotted with a very small amount of space left in between each set of beads. This creates an 'island look' that is more organic than the solid strung necklace...yet it is still very dressy and classy.

Maui Brides

Brides with many different styles and tastes come to get married on our island. Some wear nontraditional more 'island style' casual gowns while others prefer to dress to a "T"...risking it all for romance.

Don't forget the beach bridesmaid

Many of the destination weddings we see here on Maui are very small with just the bride and groom. However some families do plan larger weddings and the whole gang gets to come to the islands. The picture you see here is one of our brides that was married on a catamaran here on Maui.

Below are her bridesmaids jewelry and her own:

Fancy Up Your Feet!

Bare wedding feet need a little sparkle too

Every once in a while I see questions on forums from brides that are going to be married on the beach and they ask if they should wear shoes. Can you imagine wearing heels in the sand? Not a good idea. To me shoes on the beach is just akward...it feels akward and it looks akward and you don't want this showing through on your photos.

Flip flops are favorite choice..esp those that have had sparklies added to the tops. However my advice is to just wear them until you get to the sand and then take them off. I'm sure you've tried to wear your flip flops (or slippers as we call them here in Hawaii) in the sand only to have them kick up all kinds of sand as you walk. I always end up taking mine off and running because the sand is so hot!

Fortunately most beach weddings are performed at the nicest time of day...just before sunset and the sand has cooled nicely. So I have always suggested that barefoot is the best. And to dress up your feet you can wear a cute beaded anklet with pearls and crystal..this along with nicely manicured toes looks perfect for the occasion. The beach is a natural setting and so this look keeps with the theme and the anklet adds just the right amount of bling.

A Really Cute Find!

Beachy Style Ring Bearer Pillow

I just stumbled across this...what a cool idea for the ring bearer pillow for a beachy wedding. Have the rings in an oyster shell! Of course it's prettier then a real oyster shell. Check it out for yourself! I found it here at WeddingDepot.com

A Cocoa Beach Wedding

Edwin and Omayra Miranda - June 25, 2008

Omayra was so thoughtful and sent me pictures of her wedding...and very good ones too. Not only are they a beautiful couple...but she chose well pictures that showed the jewelry she picked out. This gives you a chance to see how well this jewelry looks in a beach wedding.

Mahalo Nui Loa Omayra..you look gorgeous!

Edwin and Omayra Miranda

Omayra is wearing a necklace hand knotted on tan silk cord with white nugget keshi pearls, small white semi round pearls, golden shadow Swarovski crystals and a pendant of shimmering mother of pearl.

The Earrings she picked out were white keshi pearls with dangling white coin pearls.

Such a beautiful bride!

"Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue"

but not too blue please...

Need something traditionally blue for the nontraditional wedding? This beach bride anklet features light blue nugget pearls along with white top drilled keshi pearls, tiny white pearls and clear glass aurora borealis seed beads that pick up just a hint of blue. It's enough for your 'something blue' with out being over powering.

The Pearl

nature's rare and beautiful gift

It's so amazing to me that inside a gooey little ocean creature grows this lustrous pebble...the pearl! Oysters are so ugly on the outside but produce such beauty on the inside. A good lesson for us all :)

And now we have learned to do so many things to the pearl..put in the oyster certain shapes so that it covers that shape in the lustrous nacre and we end up with coin pearls, square pearls, even heart pearls.

My favorite interesting shape is the petal keshi pearl (aka 'corn flake pearls') Actually keshi is a Japanese word for something very small, like a grain of sand. Now in the jewelry world its used to refer to a pearl with no nucleus or center. It has all nacre and is the result of the mollusk rejecting the nucleus yet it continues to make the pearl. They are very beautiful and very sought after so can be quite pricey.

Color enhancement has even doubled the fun with jewelry designing and mixing and matching with other stones and crystals.

And of course the pearl is the number one choice in jewelry for beach brides. They have their own elegance yet posses a natural organic beauty.
