Make Your Own Treasured Keepsake with Beaded Christmas Ornament Kits

Handmade beaded Christmas ornaments are a fabulous gift to give to just about anyone.

My own Christmas tree is loaded with Christmas tree ornaments that have been given to me over the years. I have ornaments from my dear grandmother. Since she is no longer with me, I cherish them more now than I did the day I received them.

I have keepsake ornaments that my parents gave to me and beautiful handmade beaded ornaments that my mother made for me when I was still a child.

I have handmade ornaments from my children. Now that they are grown, it is a walk in the past to touch the ornaments those precious little hands made.

Giving Christmas ornaments as Christmas gifts has become a family tradition in our home.

Why not make you own beaded Christmas ornaments and start a new family tradition today?

Beaded Ornament Handmade by My Mother

This is the ornament that my mother made for me when I was a little girl. It is approximately 40 years old. It is one of my greatest treasures.

In my minds eye, I can still see my mom sitting at the kitchen table, placing each bead, each sequin in just the right place to make this lovely keepsake.

An Ornament I Made for Our Son

I made this spider ornament for my son 17 years ago.

To this day, our tree is not completely finished until he comes home and hangs the spider on the tree.

This Was A Gift I Made for Our Daughter

I chose this ornament for my daughter because her favorite color is purple.

However, there is another meaning. Purple is a combination of red and blue, the warmest and coolest colors, therefore purple is considered to be the ideal color.

Thus, an ideal beaded ornament for an ideal daughter!

Ornament Kits or Instruction Books

I personally prefer the ornament kits because they come prepackaged with everything needed to complete a beaded ornament, except the craft glue.

However, sometimes a kit is not available in a specific color or design. Then I pull out my trusty books and buy the supplies required separately.

I love those homemade Christmas keepsake ornaments! I didn't know that there would be kits available on the market and will certainly think about making a few for myself. Thanks for sharing and the beauty of this lens!

I love the purple one! Too pretty. My mom used to make beaded ornaments when I was little with styrofoam balls and some sort of satiny strips she used to wrap the balls. I still have quite a few of them on my tree.

I love this lens. You have done a fantastic job. I think it goes very well with my Victorian Lace Christmas ornament lens. Of course you know, they made beaded ornaments in those times too. I am add a link to this lens onto that page and have lensrolled you too. Fabulous job!
  • WordCustard Dec 10, 2010 @ 9:57 am | delete
Now I have no idea how I missed this one but just came via the 'Quality Shopping Lens Tips' guide -- congratulations on a well deserved feature spot.

Yes, I've made beaded Christmas ornaments and it is a lovely holiday tradition, both the creating of them and of passing them down through the generations (or as you have shown, they can be passed 'up' too as treasured memories of little ones!). I once made an adorable Christmas spider, much like yours. I think it would be fun to make some more.

I certainly don't have your talent for making beautiful things. Mine came out kinda "homemade" looking. Come on over for coffee and show me how! I'll supply the refreshments!

Yes, many a year ago I did ... what a great way to add bling to your Christmas Ornaments! Ho Ho Ho.
  • clouda9 Dec 4, 2010 @ 2:58 pm | delete
Such treasured memories on this page...gave me a warm fuzzy feeling just reading about each unique ornament. Beautiful, thank you!

  • WildFacesGallery Nov 27, 2010 @ 11:37 am | delete
Oooh these are so lovely. I'm adding this as a featured lens to my Handmade Christmas Lensography. :)
  • Intuitive Nov 27, 2010 @ 12:56 am | delete
Yes! One of my favorite Christmas memories was mom's candy box filled with beads and sequins that we would make ornaments like this with.
  • GrammaLinda Nov 20, 2010 @ 8:41 pm | delete
I have embroidered Christmas ornaments, but never beaded any. I do have two that my aunt made when I was a child for my mom. They always go on the tree.
  • KarenTBTEN Nov 19, 2010 @ 8:12 pm | delete
My brother and I had a crafty Sunday School teacher when we were little who gave us each a beaded ornament. Those ornaments were kept many years, though some of the beads did come off.
  • Sylvestermouse Nov 20, 2010 @ 7:55 am | delete
Karen, you are absolutely right about the beads falling off over the years. That is exactly why I recommend using craft glue in my instructional lens referenced above when inserting the pins. No one wants these treasured keepsakes to fall apart. I am so glad you mentioned that in your comment! Thank you!
  • capriliz Nov 19, 2010 @ 7:34 am | delete
When I was younger, we used to make these as a family craft. They were always fun to make and lovely to hang on the tree.
  • ohcaroline Nov 19, 2010 @ 6:43 am | delete
Yes, I used to make a whole set of themed ornaments every year. But not now. I enjoyed doing that...it made the tree so special.
  • Rajays Nov 19, 2010 @ 12:09 am | delete
You have featured some very beautiful beaded ornaments here. Great lens.
  • 24websurf Nov 18, 2010 @ 11:30 pm | delete
Absolutely gorgeous! We used to make our own when I was a child and my own children would make them every year but nothing as stunning as these. They were all just as special to me :)
