Basic Beading Techniques

Basic Beading Techniques

Two basic beading techniques and three basic jeweler's tools are all you will need to learn to take you from beading nothing to beading something.

We will look at these two techniques in detail and view videos demonstrating these techniqes. By the end of this page you will move confidently into working basic projects and succeeding.

I invite you to read on but be sure to visit again as I continue to add more information or visit my beginning beader blog www.beadathome.com for more information.

I hope you enjoy what I have to share. Please feel free to leave comments, suggestions and ideas to expand on.

Happy Beading.

Crimping Technique

bracelets, necklaces and so much more.

beadsThe crimping technique is one of the first beading techniques I like to teach. It's the easier of the two I feel.

With this technique you will be able to make bracelets, necklaces, anklets and much more. There is instant gratification once your project is done and it will encourage you to forge ahead to tackle the next technique.

'Crimping' is simply a compression of a pliable bead. This pliable bead is called a 'crimp bead'. Crimp beads are available in a variety of sizes, shapes and colors. Depending on the project will depend as to the crimp bead you will want to use.

Crimping Technique Video

Watch this brief video for a visual of what was explained above. She will explain using an option of three different tools. The crimp tool, the magic crimper and then the chain nose pliers. I encourage you to start with the chain nose pliers and work up to the other two. But it's still good to know what is available.

Please feel free to leave comments below if you found this helpful or not. Happy Crimping.

Beading Wire

jewelry begins with quality materials

Soft Flex Wire 21-Strand .014" Diameter 30ft/Pkg-Satin Silver

Amazon Price: $5.75 (as of 05/28/2012)Buy Now

This is my recommendation for beading wire when it comes to choosing a quality product. Soft flex is knot resistant and allows for soft draping to you jewelry pieces.

Single Loop Technique

Earrings or Pendant or Charm

plain loopThe second technique is the single or plain loop. You will need all three of the basic beading tools, chain nose, round nose and nippers, to complete this task.

For a quick review of the basic beading tools click here .

With this technique you will be able to create earrings, bookmarks, and much more.

Follow along below in the video and practice, practice, practice. You will get the hang of it. It has become my favorite technique.

If you will 'favorite' this page I will gladly send you updates as I continue to add more information.

Thank you for your patience.

Single Loop Technique Video

This is a great peek at how to creat a single loop. I encourage you to watch the video over several times to work through the motions until you become comfortable with it. It takes practice but once you get the hang of it you will find it's quite fun.

Feel free to leave feedback as to whether you found this helpful. Happy Beading.
