Bean Dip Recipes That Will Change Your Life!

OK, maybe you won't get any life-changing revelations from these bean dip recipes, but I do love bean dip because it's simple, and well... gosh darn tasty. It stores well for snacks later on. And is a great treat for groups of people.

If I keep the ingredients healthy, I even like to eat bean dip with tortilla chips for a meal when I'm cooking for myself.

The Spinach Bean Dip Recipe is my all time favorite. It started as just a can of refried beans with a few spices, and I kept adding stuff to make it more interesting.

Enjoy the Dip!

Spinach Bean Dip Recipe

(aka Magic Bean Dip)

This is a great spinach bean dip recipe that's simple to make. Generous amount of vegetables and fat free refried beans make it healthy to eat. It actually makes a satisfying meal. A batch from a single can of refried beans can be divided up into several single serving meals.

1 - 16oz can Taco Bell Fat Free Refried Beans
1/4 cup diced onion
1 cup diced tomatoes
1 cup or more diced baby spinach or 1/2 cup iceberg lettuce
3/4 tsp. cayenne red pepper
1/4 tsp. sage
1/4 tsp. coriander
1/4 tsp. cilantro

Directions
Throw everything into a mixing bowl an stir. Eat this dip with your favorite tortilla chip.

If you want the vegetables to stay pretty, mix together the refried beans and the seasonings, then mix in the veggies. If you don't mix them too much, the vegetables will stay nice and bright without getting covered in bean paste.

Use caution when adjusting the amount of onion. It can end up over-powering everything else, so be conservative with it.

Iceberg lettuce works, but is bland and watery. Only use 1/2 cup of iceberg lettuce if you substitute it for the spinach.

I've found some differences in the flavors between brands of refried beans. I recommend using Taco Bell or La Preferida brands.

I usually throw the spices in without measuring. WARNING: You may prefer less red pepper.

Seven Layer Bean Dip Recipe

or 8 or 9 layer too!

Layered Bean Dip CloseupLayered Bean Dip is a quick and easy way to go too. You can really show off your fresh ingredients and even hide some surprises underneath if you like.

1 - 1.25 oz. package taco seasoning mix
1 - 16 oz. can refried beans
1 - 16 oz. container sour cream
1 - 8 oz. package cream cheese
1 - 16 oz. jar salsa
2.5 cups chopped spinach and/or leaf lettuce, adjust quantity to taste
1 - 8 oz. package of your favorite shredded cheese
1 cup tomato, cut & adjust quantity to taste
1 green pepper, cut & adjust quantity to taste
1 - 6 oz. can sliced black olives
12 green onions, dice & adjust quantity to taste

Directions:

Mix up the taco seasoning and refried beans in a bowl and spread it in the bottom of your serving dish.

Mix the sour cream and cream cheese in a bowl and spread it over the refried beans.

The salsa is next, followed by the greens (spinach and/or lettuce). It's nice to cut the greens up finely for easier dipping. Use iceberg lettuce as a last resort. Spinach or leaf lettuce work well.

The cheese goes on top of the greens.

Add the tomatoes, green pepper, black olives and green onions.

For a little variety try adding a layer of fried rice, or adding chopped bacon, avacado or guacamole.

Go All Artsy On your Bean Dip!

Volcano

If I learned anything from watching Top Chef, it's that everything tastes better with bacon in it. .... And also that presentation can put your dish over the top, or give chef Colicchio something to knock points off your dish for.

So hey, have fun. Rebel against your Mama's rules and play with your food! Add you favorite sports logo. Or maybe even for the next time you sit down to watch Tommy Lee Jones in the 1997 classic movie "VOLCANO!", go all 3D and sculpt a Bean Dip Volcano like the one below.

I doubt chef Colicchio would be impressed much by the poop reference in the SlumDog Bean Dip below. But hey, you get to choose. You are the guest judge on this episode, so go ahead and vote on your favorite bean dip presentation. Heck even add your own to the list.
